Smith hasn't been good for awhile, but I'm fine with kicking the tires on him. Good locker room leader from what I hear

Wonder if he has any use in blitz packages

I'm going to assume it's because Adams commented "Call me" on Gilmore's farewell IG post...meaning Gilmore never called him.

Yeah, he hasn't been good for a while (since the 2019 season). Don't let last year's tackle totals fool you, the Cowboys run defense was absolute garbage (31st in yards and 30th in YPC) in no small part because of him. The upside is that he's still only 26, and he lost his job more because Micah Parsons is a beast as opposed to him being cooked physically. The athleticism is still there, so hopefully playing with Campbell/Barnes they don't have to put too much on his plate. All indicators say he's a hard worker.

Isn't Joe Barry known as a bit of a LB whisperer? Maybe he can resurrect J. Smith. Man, it’d be fun to have two athletic dudes on the inside if they can make it work.

I'm curious to see what he may be able to do on the outside. With Z and now Rivers out for an extended period, they're low on outside rushers.

Either way, I wasn't feeling great about this defense to begin with, and Smith's signing doesn't make me feel that much better. They need more help at OLB, DL and CB.

So 2 years ago he was closer to being our devon white than what he is know.
Can only hope he morphs back to that 2019 version then

Absolutely tbe DL #1 priority imagine how much better our average LBs would look with a really good front 4.All you need to do is go back 3 years to win SF had that great front 4 their LBs were average as were there DBs but when you have guys like that up front everyone behind them looks so much better

I won't pretend to know how good Smith is or was, but if we take PFF grades as an indicator this year, he is the #13 rated LB. He is extremely poorly rated run defense, but extremely good pass defense. There is definitely a way to use this guy, maybe we just try to not ask him to do too much he sucks at and use him where he seems to be very good.

Also, Campbell is having an incredible year so far, very good signing. Hoping it continues.
