Should The Orlando Magic Just Wait Another Year?

Post#1 » by T-Cat » Thu Oct 7, 2021 3:11 pm

I know the season just starting, but the Orlando Magic should do a number of things this season:

1. WAIT on Markelle Fultz! Let him regain his confidence in his shooting form from his days in college, to where it's effortless and let him get as much 5 on 5 practice game action as possible!

2. WAIT on Jonathan Isaac! Similar to Fultz, he needs more 5 on 5 practice reps as possible! Unlike when he had before he played in the NBA Bubble, where I don't believe he had enough contact and game speed practice before steeping on the NBA hardwood. Being healthy is not good enough, he has to get his body in game shape condition by being able to handle physicality!

Also, this gives JI and the organization time to figure out how to deal with Isaac's covid-vaccine situation before he loses money if he's healthy to play.

3. Extend both Bamba and Wendell Carter Jr. now (reasonable deals) before their asking price goes up! I personally think Bamba has more upside but he has to get himself a big man coach/trainer to level up. With his physical abilities, he should be dominating in the post but instead plays like a guard.

4. Gain as many assets as possible to target that special player, whether is through the NBA draft or via trade! Getting the # 1 pick would certainly help but never a certainty. Imagine Chet Holmgren on this team with a healthy and confident JI/Fultz along with improving Suggs/Bamba! :o

1. Nope (IMO), his shot won't get better until he is playing NBA games.
2. Nope (IMO), if he's healthy he should play
3. Not sure what is reasonable right now? vs. at the end of the season? Let them play it out, 1 should become a 30min starter, we can find a back up for the other minutes.
4. You have to give up something to gain assets, Harris & Ross I guess are the only 2, but if you are sitting Fultz and JI, you can't afford to trade those 2 vets. If you play Fultz and JI, that will allow you to move the others. Doesn't Chet play the same position as J.I.??

We could do everything you say, and still miss out on #1 or #2.

Fultz and Isaac are too young/unproven for us to wait half their careers to be completely healthy. Gotta find out what we have before their next extensions.

Absolutely. Even two years wouldn't be bad.

Embrace the tank, level up the young guys, get everyone fit, get the highest possible picks, trust the process. :P

When I look at the Orlando squad... can't help but think someone like SGA would be the perfect addition to it. So what would it take y'all to get him from OKC... Fultz + how many good picks?

I understand but we want to make sure they are completely healthy as well! They are difference makers

This is a tanking season whether Isaac and Fultz play or not. So you might as well play them when they're healthy.

I see no reason to extend Carter or Bamba. The Magic can still retain one or both of them this offseason if they want to. No need to commit.

endorsed 100%. this team still isnt good and will be in the lottery again. no extending Bamba and Carter early, neither have shown enough to get extensions early. prove health and skill

Next year will probably be very similar to this one, so you might as well sit them until their contracts expire, just to be sure they are healty

Just win the Title this year and be done with this nonsense of waiting yet another year.

I want a trophy NOW!

Fultz and Isaac got to get out there and play. They both are off their rookie deals and have hardly played. They HAVE to get better, the best way is at nba game speed.

Should we rest them often? Absolutely. I would be fine if neither one of these guys played in a back to back all year. Rest them further down the stretch. BUT they need to be playing in games and meaningful minutes

I'd love to sign both Bamba and WCJ to team friendly deals based on their current NBA output. I just don't know why they would. If we could get Bamba for $5-$7M a year great, but he's better off proving it on the court.
fwiw...Hollinger just had an article on the Athletic about rookie extension estimates based on on-court production Bamba 4/12.5 WCJ 4/49

Suggs and unprotected 2022 1st might be the opening bid. SGA is so good. He's probably the best guard in the league at getting to the rim. I wouldn't be surprised if he is untouchable for OKC

I hope this year the Magic team plays their best. I do not like tanking. But also, we won't win many games either.

But team has to grow. We have too much young talents that need PT.

I hope they play to their best

Terrible ideas.

Isaac is not going to get better just practicing. Also, is it impossible for players not get injured at practice?

Last full season he’s played was 18-19 - mind you the only full season he’s played…but under This plan we think he’ll get better by missing 3 full seasons??

Bamba will likely get 40m and WCJ 60-70m. If it was still the 80's, we could probably get Bamba on a 4 year 12m deal.

I don't expect either guy to come close to these numbers and if they do, it's a big mistake by the team giving out the contract.

Richaun Holmes, who is better than both of them, only got 4/46.5M.

Robert Williams, again better than both of them IMO, got 4/54.

Carter *should* get something along the lines of Holmes' deal (I'd go less) and Bamba shouldn't even get a multi-year deal at this point.

I disagree about Williams being better. Mo just badly outplayed him. Holmes is okay for a very small center with a 7'1" wingspan, I think he's better suited for the bench.

Those players aren't better, they've just been healthier.

I could see them having clauses tied into their health. If both played a healthy 4 years years, they'd have some value.
