IT'S LIKELY: Bronny James is 18 and short (about 6'1/2" barefoot) so his size+skills won't make him a real nba player

So you've been following the development of a young boy more than others. Weird flex.

Every inch less certainly makes it exponentially harder.

This got me wondering, has there ever been a great NBA player whose father was also a great NBA player?

The closest I can come up with is Klay and Mychal Thompson, but Mychal wasn't considered an NBA great, and Klay himself is only borderline great.

Anyone?

The Warriors have consistently employed underathletic pure shooters who cannot be playmakers. Most of whom can't play defense.

The declaration that he likely wont be a NBA player at 17 is just betting the odds against any HS player. If I flip a quarter into the air, odds are its going to hit the ground. I'm not prophetic, I'm playing the odds. But if someone's walking by and snatches it, I'd feel pretty stupid if I pounded my chest to everyone about how it was going to hit the ground.

Men don't stop growing until 24 refers to overall growth, not height. Obviously, there will be exceptions. Overall, the average male growth past 17 is 3/4 of an inch. Also, there's no such thing as a growth spurt. Most of the times, growth is linear. He has been this height for the past 2 years or so

Growth is linear after baby-stage and before puberty. Growth spurts start with puberty and can occur until roughly around 20 yrs of age.

The Sabonis duo might be the closest as of now, though Arvydas didn't do a ton in the NBA obviously.

Wow you sound hurt people aren't joining in on your "official" declaration that a 17 year old is definitely not making the NBA. He has time to develop and besides that he's Bron's kid, you really think no team is willing to throw a second round pick at him?

Seriously though, people should just let the kid be a kid.

I think that goes beyond this forum though.

Allegedly, the kid was being offered scholarships at age 10, per James.
We can all see 87 stories online right now about his first dunk. Or, the time(s) when LeBron ran layup lines with his kids team.

Or even check out the kid's Wikipedia page. The James family didn't exactly shield the kid from the spotlight. And that's fine.

But there's another side to fame, too. Even 17 year olds don't always get to have their cake and eat it, too.

Whoa I forgot about Domantas. Yeah I think that might be the closest.

Reminds me of that scene in Creed when the trainer is trying to tell Adonis that he hasn't struggled so he doesn't have the fire to make it the way the others that have do. Creed begins to KO those that supposedly struggled more than him. All of that stuff is irrelevant when it comes to making it to the peak of a sport.

It's not irrelevant, it's the opposite, actually.

Savannah is short. Should have created a super baby with a tall athlete.

On a serious note, Bronny I’m sure is going to be just fine.

Naw you might be watching too many movies my dude.
Everything from nutrition to access to health care to access to quality coaching to access to training equipment to access to a basketball hoop itself is influenced by family income.
It's obviously not the only factor, but it is definitely a very real factor.
Even playing on an aau team costs several thousand dollars a year. Sure if you're a generational athlete discounted opportunities are available, but if you're a late bloomer, good luck because you'll be at a huge disadvantage without those early opportunities and resources.

I think Bronny is nowhere near 6'4, he is 6'2 in shoes. We'll see how he does in college, everything else is guesswork until.

If Gelo is getting NBA summer league tryouts, LeBron friggin James' son is going to at least get a sniff of an NBA court.
