PJ can't play the 5 for long stretches against physical true bigs like Adams. Expecting him to handle that is setting him up to fail. Borrego needs to get comfortable playing either Vern or Kai in situations like last night when Plumlee is out.

Memphis is also one of the worst matchups for us in the NBA along with Utah and Philly. We don't have an answer for their size/physicality. So it's not like we're going to get obliterated like this every night. It's still a problem though and Borrego needs to stop trying to hammer a square peg into a round role throwing PJ out there against Adams. The team traded a first for Kai and invested a high 2nd along with a 4 year contract for Carey. He needs to play them and live with the growing pains.

Throwing Kai at a dude like Adams for Adams to just feast on is not the answer.

Kai is about 25lbs and 2 years away from having a chance against a C like Adams.

PJ is in the same boat, he's just older than Kai. Vernon should have been the guy to matchup with Adams. He's the only player we have that has the weight/strength to not be completely outmanned.

Or...we should have just gotten Adams...NOP was giving away picks just to get rid of the guy

Vern not getting minutes is very concerning. Was really hoping he'd be able to be a rotation worthy player this season. He's still only 20 years old, but man I thought he'd be ready to contribute.

Next year we need center help, pg help and sf help. I like scotty pippen jr for us there, we are lucky that sf is gonna be a loaded spot so we can get help there for both injury prone hayward and oubre. Finally center. There are a couple of centers I like who should be there 2nd round. My sleepers there are Azuolas Tubelis and Xavier Foster is good but he had a foot injury but taking a chance 2nd round could be an option.

Yeah the Vernon Carey thing concerns me. I don’t understand why we didn’t go after a backup center this offseason. There were plenty of cheap backup fives to be had. The way I was trying to rationalize that was by assuming they thought Carey was gonna take on a bigger role. But then we didn’t play him much in SL so I was like maybe they think he’s too good for SL and were just seeing if Richards was worth hanging on to. But now it’s preseason and Richards garbage ass is still getting more minutes than Carey and he’s barely playing so Carey must really be sucking ass

Big yikes if Plumlee ever misses time. Guess they would just bring back Biz or something

Also hate seeing Martin get the start. This is a lesson they should've learned last year. Even with Hayward and Oubre out, he shouldn't be starting. He kills the offense. It completely negates playing PJ at the five. If you're gonna play PJ at the five, you're leaning on your offense to carry you (cuz your not gonna stop or out rebound anyone)

Where's Kulboka at? He should be getting some preseason reps in

Per UNCNYC, we had a 22 year old, ready to contribute, big, athletic defender and rebounder available to us at #55 and we took Lewis. Aggravated the life out of me. I like Lewis, but how many Lewis-type players do we need? Spilt milk I suppose.

I think Sims would have meshed well especially with Melo. If any PG in the league he can mesh with it would be Melo. What a fun lineup of

Melo
Bouknight
Oubre - Next year andre jackson
Miles
Sims

We LOVE LEWIS AND THOR this is not a knock against them at all, this is just a WHAT MIGHT MAKE SENSE/NEED thing

I liked his fit pre-draft as well - esp next to Melo - and he looks solid thus far - had a good Summer League showing and a solid 8/6 in 20+ mins in the first Knicks preseason game. Thought he was an absolute no-brainer at 55.

That game was a great reminder of how we failed to address any of our major areas of need in the offseason, three-point shooting, defensive rebounding, and backup center.

Kupchak said the backup center is already on the roster. I wonder what Borrego thinks about that?

Guard depth is the last of my worry. Pretty concerned with the center situation though per usual.

Yes only bad thing about hims (which might be good) is that he has almost zero footage of his offense other than dunks lol. I have watched so much footage and only saw 3 times where he scored outside of a dunk or put back but it works for him and the few plays I did se were smooth. I think he will develop some sort of offensive move if needed and if not he makes up for it in defense, and put backs.

Some think we need to draft guards. Interesting thing is my favorite player in next years draft is Manny Obaseki. He reminds me of D Wade but left handed. Same style of play and size.

I think we need a backup PG. Rozier is gonna be hard to trade because we are committed to him for the next 1,000 years.

Bad news because I LOVE SHADEAN SHARPE, and the twins AMEN Thompson and Ausar Thompson in the 2023 draft at SG. Amen might be able to play SF tho. And Sadragque Nganga at PF if Hatfield isn't the choice this year. Amen Thompson and Ausar would be awesome replacements for the Martins

If Adam’s is bullying PJ he’s just going to eat Kai’s soul.

(Until Kai adds some mass and experience himself).
