Off-Guard: Who Starts at the 2?

Post#1 » by ecuhus1981 » Fri Oct 8, 2021 4:18 pm

Assuming Sean Marks doesn't trade he-who-shall-not-be-named for a replacement, how do you think we should fill the newest void in our starting lineup?

Obviously, James is our table setter, you can call him a 1 or a 2, it doesn't really matter. Similarly with Kevin, whether he's nominally the 3 or the 4, he's the star of the show. Blake seems likely to keep his spot, as does Joe. But do you go small, with someone like Bruce, Patty or even Jevon as your 5th starter? Or double down on size with Aldridge, Claxton or Millsap? This may sound crazy for a team with championship aspirations, but I wouldn't even rule out our ridiculously skilled and confident rookie.

We know that Nash will say that it's fluid and matchup-based, which is fair. Still, it can't be a complete timeshare, where we're mirroring whatever team we're facing instead of establishing our own identity. Someone has to rise to the forefront and develop chemistry with the other starters.

So, who's your choice? And why? For the bigman options, the inference is that Joe and Kevin slide up to the 2 and 3, respectively.

Can we get an "other" option?

I think Brown/Bembry starts or Harris plays the SG with James Johnson at F. Mills wil see 30+ minutes in regular season games without Kyrie, but i think they like him more as a microwave and want more toughness to start.

MY guess for that 5th starter, in order:

1) Brown
2) Bembry
3) Johnson
4) Carter

I would like to have Harden, Harris, KD, Johnson, and Aldridge start.

If not, Brown at SG seems like a good idea. He's already familiar with everyone and also, if his 3 point shot is for real this season he becomes a dangerous player.

I voted for Bruce Brown, because he gives us that added punch that we need grabbing offensive boards. We have enough snipers behind the three point line so BB makes the most sense.

But we can expect a lot of lineup changes. Although not as many as last season..

I think it will be match up based. If we're playing a less physical, smaller team I can see Blake starting many times.

I only voted for Cam Thomas because I want him to get significant minutes off the bench. I don't care how young he is, a blind man can see how talented he is as a scorer, and we need to replace Kyrie's scoring.

That said, I would make sure Cam Thomas is part of the 2 rotation with Harden starting at the 1.

PG Harden - Mills
SG Brown - Cam

As for Kyrie, keep him away from the team ... practice included ... he's toxic.

I think we start big. Not sure Blake is a given, but 2 of Aldridge, Millsap & Griffin will likely start.

His teammates want him at practice. because they love him and he is an outstanding leader. what they think matters alot more then what you think
