Then Bucks still suck.

Hammond had an agreement in place to trade the Giannis pick for a Josh Smith rental to load up for that playoff series with maybe the best Heat team in the LeBron era. Danny Ferry backed out.

Hammond tried to extend Brandon Jennings before he got to RFA, but Jennings turned him down. No trade for Midds if that happens.

Hammond got lucky on both accounts after he failed to make an awful move first.

I love all the Sixers-Simmons implosion content so much.

It's good for the Bucks to have a hobbled conference competitor and I just don't feel that badly for anyone involved.

Depending on what Morey ultimately gets he might seriously regret playing hardball as opposed to making the obvious swap for McCollum:

The talks centered around a swap of Simmons for C.J. McCollum, but died due to Philadelphia seeking multiple first round picks. Daryl Morey reportedly asked for three first round picks and pick swaps in the intervening years, in addition to McCollum.

Simmons could be stuck in Philly a while longer if Morey still is seeking anything resembling that kind of package.

Also moving sucks! I hope Ben doesn't have too much trouble finding things he needs in those boxes:

This is the price we paid to go from Bled and George Hill to Jrue. It's probably very similar to what Simmons will eventually get traded for. Portland is on my shortlist for teams that could start bad and panic. Just do it now. The guy is a 24 year old 3x all star, 2x 1st team all defense, and a perfect fit with Dame.

He played last night, playing pretty hectic defense from what I saw in first half

But, I would expect him to be sidelined at some point for an extended period

The uncertainty surrounding Dame’s future makes those picks extremely valuable. Even if he stays, he’s already 31. It’s a fair ask for Philly, but I understand Portland’s reluctance.

Dame's under contract until 2025, he and CJ taking turns is a cruel way to trifle away his career.

If Portland is willing to part with McCollum I bet they could beat any other suitor's offers if so inclined.

3 first round picks + pick swaps is a ton to give up though considering Dame might want out within a season or two if Simmons doesn't put them over the top.

I don't see Indiana or Minnesota offering that many picks either.

And even if they were, McCollum is better than Brogdon (his health is that much riskier alongside Embiid) and Russell, so Blazers are in the drivers seat if they wanna be.

That said I could also see Portland fearing a Simmons collapse in the playoffs could send Dame running for the hills, even if it's a great regular season fit.
