Re: Welcome Matisse Thybulle!
Never been all that enamoured with him. His defense is nice, but overrated. He isn't a true lockdown force like Ben Simmons is. He's simply an elite off-ball defender that has generational like instincts and quickness, but just slightly above on ball defending ability. And that's combined with being a complete nothing offensively.
Our worst lineups impact wise last season usually featured either him or Dwight or the both of them together. He's a perfect sell high asset for me. Him getting to even average league wide offensively seems like enough of a journey for him with his current trajectory.

Re: Welcome Matisse Thybulle!
He's a good off ball cutter and I think he actually has good offensive instincts with the ball in that he knows where the open players are and will be based on a dribble drive move he will make on a closeout but his skill level is just so poor that ability is wasted (passes get deflected/stolen, etc). He doesn't dribble or shoot well enough or make quick enough decisions with the ball and it makes him a huge negative offensively.
Thybulle attacking a closeout results in either a layup/dunk, a turnover, or possession reset. The layups and dunks are rare, and when the other two are the overwhelming likelihood out of an advantageous offensive situation (or a low percentage 3) it's a terrible outcome.
I don't think there's much league wide value on him anymore so he could be a secondary throw in on a Simmons trade or maybe we are better off keeping him through the rookie deal as a situational hand to play and let him walk.

Don't disagree with anything you said but why would you add on 'anymore' here? Nothing happened to decrease his value, and he did make 2nd team all-defense while getting pretty steady hype as more people noticed his defensive game. Even got features like this from KOC: https://www.theringer.com/video/2021/5/13/22433523/matisse-thybulle-is-the-nbas-most-disruptive-defender
The 3pt shooting % dropped, sure but he was pretty low volume with that. Always have to remember how thin those margins are for guys like him--if he literally made one single 3 more per month last season, he would've shot about league average (35%). Doubt his value is really rising and falling massively based on one more three rimming out every 11 or 12 games.

A team loaded on offense would still value Matisse, I imagine. I'd move him for a playoff team's first rounder.

Although he's probably not a starter (yet, at least),I want to keep him especially after trading Ben. He is the guy you bring in when you are down 10 with 8 mins left and need to create some turnovers, like Bobby Jones. Every team needs one player like him.

I think it's more related to his potential. After two full seasons, I'd wager that most teams now believe he doesn't have any offensive ability left to unlock. You could have sold his potential last offseason coming off a rookie year he had. Now he's likely pegged as a guy with a situational deployment, not someone capable of 30+ minutes in the playoffs.

Re: Welcome Matisse Thybulle!
I don’t think it’d be wise to go from two all-NBA defenders to zero in one swoop. I’d rather attach Korkmaz or Shake to Ben in any trade. Maxey depending on the return.
2025-2026 Philadelphia 76ers:
Maxey/McCain/Lowry
Edgecombe/Grimes/Gordon
George/Oubre/Edwards
Watford/Barlow/Walker
Embiid/Drummond/Bona/Broome

You mean going from 3 to 1?

Matisse seems to have a good reputation in the league. Who is the best guard you think we could get for him?

Not talked about but Thybulle is the player who benefits the most with this rule change.

Re: Welcome Matisse Thybulle!
Much doubt about Thybulle on the offensive end, despite what I perceive to have been a sincere effort to develop. But he did look more efficient with the Aussie scheme. And I still want to see him on the court with both Biid and Ben, to gauge the possibility of any further potential of a lockdown D/highflying transition line-up.

Thybulle needs to be a screener for a distributing point guard to get decent looks. We don't have that.

Re: Welcome Matisse Thybulle!
I am worried that we are getting close to time to pay Thybulle, so if he can be moved for additional value in a Simmons or Simmons related trade, and presuming we get someone who can play defense back in the deal, I am comfortable with his being part of the deal, or staying here as some have noted above if we don't get enough D back in a trade. He has definite trade value now at his current salary that might diminish when he gets paid down the road or we don't match what others throw his way. For some teams he can be an excellent missing piece.

Re: Welcome Matisse Thybulle!
Dump him for a draft pick. He's unplayable offensively and has no discernable ability to develop, as evident of his flatlined trajectory through 4 years of college and 3 years in the NBA.

Yeah he's basically at the same make or break point they got to with Dario a few years ago. Either they have to commit to him or it makes sense to move on in the next few months.

Now we do! Still don't see him being useful in any manner on offense.

I'm calling BS on the headline, and this is exactly why:
Matisse needs to improve his work ethic and develop this corner jumper or he's going to continue to be an offensive liability.

“We talked about it. Teams are starting to do the old help off him. Today (Thursday) was the most egregious that I’ve seen. Put Giannis on him and just have him rover the floor.

With Harden, the 76ers can steal from the Nets and how they used Bruce Brown last year. Let Matisse be the roll-man in the pick-&-roll.
Let Niang, Maxey and Green compete for minutes as the floor spacers.
