I dont think. He wouldve been fine if it was just the Smith email as he could argue it was dikkish but not racist and it was an isolated incident 10 years ago. But the amount of homophobic emails he sent over the past 5 years is problematic, and more importantly, as an employer, if Gruden is not smart enough to not put that chit into emails that are forever, then he likely has other skeletons in the closet. Some of the stuff he said for those who haven't seen it:

Gruden’s messages were sent to Bruce Allen, the former president of the Washington Football Team, and others, while he was working for ESPN as a color analyst during “Monday Night Football,” the sports network’s weekly prime-time telecast of N.F.L. games. In the emails, Gruden called the league’s commissioner, Roger Goodell, a “f****t” and a “clueless anti football p*ssy” and said that Goodell should not have pressured Jeff Fisher, then the coach of the Rams, to draft “queers,” a reference to Michael Sam, a gay player chosen by the team in 2014.

In numerous emails during a seven-year period ending in early 2018, Gruden criticized Goodell and the league for trying to reduce concussions and said that Eric Reid, a player who had demonstrated during the playing of the national anthem, should be fired. In several instances, Gruden used a homophobic slur to refer to Goodell and offensive language to describe some N.F.L. owners, coaches and journalists who cover the league.

Instead of people talking about consequences this thread will be filled with the usual suspects talking about cancel culture and the poor plight of the white man.

Leave a paper trail of misogyny, homophobia, and racism and don't expect to keep your high profile job. And this is 100% on him. He is not the victim. For once, guys please don't try and create a martyr.

The initial report of the single comment was met with numerous minority friends of Gruden standing up for him, and if that was the extent of this I would think the resignation was a gross overaction. A 'judging someone on their worst moment' type of puritanical witch hunt.

But this shows a pattern of both clear cut homophobia and tremendous stupidity. The Michael Sam comment in particular is just horrific. He should be gone and now he is.

So in Nevada, Gruden has to resign for making a slew of true statements, but they crown a "Miss" Nevada that is actually a man. Welcome to clown world. :crazy:

Gruden was against the hiring of women as refs and in a few of his emails urged teams not to draft gay players. I'm certain he was "asked" to resign.

Whenever a (usually white) person in nfl says something racially questionable they always trot out tony dungy on snf to soothe it over so that the mass viewers don’t feel bad about it because dungy said it’s not bad. Dungy is a total sellout and looks like an absolute fool today (same with SAS who treated gruden with kid gloves this morning ).

Right. I'm sure virtually everybody has some emails and texts they wouldn't want anybody to see. So I was a little torn on that. But holy sht man, if you're using that kind of language on such an extensive basis, it goes way, way beyond words. You're talking about mentality / attitude. And he ticked pretty much all the boxes.

Keyshawn Johnson has been calling out gruden for a while now , and he has been totally vindicated today

While that will be watched for and perhaps is probable, we don't need assumptions at the beginning of threads calling people out for something that hasn't happened yet.

Sometimes in the past threads have veered in this type of direction because of posts like this.

Not saying you are wrong...I don't know what he wrote, etc, as I hadn't heard about it yet, but this is almost as inviting as it is discouraging.

Just report posts if it does in this direction or PM a GB mod you see that is around.
