If you just look at hospital data 86 percent of all hospitalizations are unvaccinated. 90-94 percent of ICU COVID cases are unvaccinated. The vaccination rate is around 50 percent overall. Here is the percentage of minorities that are currently vaccinated. Kyrie by getting vaccinated would help save lives especially if he assumed a vocal leadership role in doing so. He would also be able to help his team achieve their lifelong championship goals, be at less risk to have serious complications, and earn 17 million doing so. It’s really unbelievable…

These numbers are depressing. This winter is going to see a lot of people dying when they don't have to.

This is what this dude posted last night:

Let this sink in. He is the definition of a pseudointellectual, on top of the fact that he has zero self awareness.

He is literally engaging in what the meme describes as "Western/Colonial" thinking with his stance on being unvaccinated. If he believed in the mindset of "we are one, we need each other", he would have been vaccinated 8 months ago, because by getting vaccinated you are saying "I care about the people around me". This is absolutely bonkers to the point where I had to question whether or not he was trolling.

Also, the vaccination rates of our Indigenous brothers and sisters blow everyone else out of the water last time I checked

Where is the disconnect here?

I think Nets won't renew contract with him if he doesn't get vaccinated. What's the point of having player on the roster who can't play home games?

Marks just issued a statement as well stating we aren't doing this "part time" crap with Kyrie.

“Given the evolving nature of the situation and after thorough deliberation, we have decided Kyrie Irving will not play or practice with the team until he is eligible to be a full participant," said Sean Marks in a statement. "Kyrie has made a personal choice, and we respect his individual right to choose. Currently the choice restricts his ability to be a full-time member of the team, and we will not permit any member of our team to participate with part-time availability. It is imperative that we continue to build chemistry as a team and remain true to our long-established values of togetherness and sacrifice. Our championship goals for the season have not changed, and to achieve these goals each member of our organization must pull in the same direction. We are excited for the start of the season and look forward to a successful campaign that will make the borough of Brooklyn proud.”

This was done with KD and Harden's blessing. Woj sent that warning out last night. That was not a coincidence.

Now we can move on. I'm so glad that Marks basically called out Irving in the statement as well. Togetherness and sacrifice.

I still think Kyrie will get the shot.

Is he that stupid that he will give up 30 million dollars? Money talks louder than anything else.

Marks is giving Kyrie the Simmons treatment. Smart.

Now the question is can the team offically suspend him for all games until he is vaccinated? If so, he loses pay & after a couple of missed games the team would qualify for another roster spot. With Irving out, we could use another ball handler behind Mills for Harden rest games. If he's just staying home with pay for home games, he would not qualify.

A suspension would definitely come with a grievance from the NBAPA.

It's a tough call to make. A totally unenviable decision for everyone involved and a huge bummer. I really love watching Kai play. I hope something changes.

I can see Kai sticking to his guns. I can see him retiring. I can see this getting uglier. Him getting the shot would surprise me the most.

Everything comes down to money at the end of the day.

Is Kyrie really that crazy he would give up tens of millions of dollars for a shot? I'm not convinced.

Some of you will call bs on this. Personally I like it. They're not trying to f*** with his money beyond what the league mandates. I don't want bridges burned. I wanna see Kai play again.

Make no mistake, I'm still a fan of Kyrie as a basketball player and I still have some hope he (and every eligible person that can be vaccinated) takes the vaccine whether Kyrie stays, is traded, or even ultimately retires. However, I fully agree Marks (and really the team) made the correct decision here.

This is exactly how they should handle the situation. Sacrifice or stay home. Everyone else on the team has done what they were asked. The goal is clear. Kyrie may be paid to sit for half his games but he is going to lose a huge amount of money in the end and forget about any extensions. If he doesn't budge he needs to seek professional help, there's no other way to explain it.

I have no issue with him being paid for away games. Let him sit.

Imagine that taking a life saving vaccine to keep you and everyone around you from dying is considered a sacrifice.

* Sigh *.................I can't see Ky being upset with the Nets organization, they didn't make the mandate. But this is still the first domino to fall.

The next could be.

Kyrie retires.

Kyrie gets traded.

Nothing happens and by next year the mandate is no longer in effect. And he returns.

Kyrie gets the vaccination

Lawyers and lawsuits circling like Vultures.

not playing home game is temporary. Kyrie has 4+ more all-nba seasons in him. even if he played 0 more games, its worth the risk as getting top 10 guys in their prime is super rare

Return to Brooklyn Nets
