Nah'Shon "Bones" Hyland
I think we are going to be talking about this guy from here on. He is a late first round pick who plays like a veteran. Preseason game one highlights:
Canned in Denver.

He definitely had a nice game last night, impressive to say the least. He showed poise and should earn minutes off the bench, looks like a spark plug off the bench right now anyway.

He really reminds me of Lou Williams and Jamal Crawford, both who I think are borderline HOFers (they also have almost identical career numbers). If we could get anywhere near that type of player, we made a huge addition for a late draft pick.

Yep. Another home run draft pick. He could really take some of the sting out of missing Murray. At least.

Can't help but wonder if Bones and the Blue Arrow could co-exist/thrive in the same backcourt

That's a possibility that I am seeing as well. Plenty of time to sort out who this guy really is but Bones sets the table well and he scores at will. He is a natural point guard, a complete offensive player with nifty defense. As Jokic says, he has a lot to learn but he has the package.
Canned in Denver.

Well, Murray is not a traditional PG - but neither are most of the modern great NBA PGs. Hyland looks like a combo guard as well. Having both alongside Jokic ought to be a lot of fun --- ball, ball, who gets the ball next?

Yeah, I don't see a downside there. That's a lot of guys who can be playmakers, both in the starting lineup and on the bench.

I know nothing about Hyland beyond some predraft assessments and a few clips so this thread is helpful and encouraging. The Nuggets clearly are all in on the core of Jokic, Murray, MPJ and Gordon with very little room to improve by addition, so the prospect of growing their own from the bottom of the draft (yet again) gives me some hope.

Best interest for both team AND player development and success to play Bones 6th man/gunner role off the bench
Roster currently lays out ok as well with Monte Morris to fill Murray role, but morris might not like going starting pg to 3rd guard. Doesn't matter. Best move is to play Bones at first guard off the bench for at least a few years.
Nugs need has been guy to come off the bench and do exactly what Bones does. Great draft pick.
Bones and SticksBarton would be a sick bench mob. Imagine Bolbol turning out as a 3rd member bones and sticks×2
Best team Nugs can throw out
Murray
PJ Dozier
MpJ
AG
Jokic
Bones, Barton, green and Green off the bench in the rotation
Monte, facu, Cancar, Nnaji,Bolbol bench mob
See why you start monte and play facu geavy first part of the year? Yeahp cause you got somethint in Bolbol and a great trade chip in morris and Facu when its time to get Murray back. Barton and Green added if you have to

Still waiting for Bones to get some PT, is Malone just trying to set a veteran rotation?

Reminds me of how Beasley took 2 years to actually crack the rotation, who's to say that he wasn't ready to contribute from the first year

Re: Nah'Shon "Bones" Hyland
With the lack of bench production, Malone almost has his back to the wall, looks like he'll HAVE to play Hyland some more mins. Facu's defense is good, as is Dozier's but the only person besides Bones who is scoring is Green(s).

I like Bones and I think he has a huge future for us. I think we need to find a way to move Campazzo and make Bones our primary backup until Murray gets back, then we see who has earned their minutes.

Nice to see you back Rebel !
I agree, while I like Facu, his lack of offense outweighs his defense which usually leads to 4-on-5's on the offensive end which usually is when we lose any leads out starters have built. And Bones, while very young, is still is pushing for a defensive effort (albeit with rookie mistakes). Hyland provides a 2-sided game that will get better, not sure Campazzo hasn't hit his ceiling

Re: Nah'Shon "Bones" Hyland
Campazzo seems to be another Barton-type favorite of Malone. Neither really fits the Nuggets system, but Malone likes them - greatly. Campazzo is not a defensive specialist and he shots a low percentage from 3pt. Barton can at least hit more than 1/3 of his 3pt shots.
Hyland is already getting 15 minutes per game, but did not get PT in 3 games. Campazzo is getting just 2 minutes more per game but has played in all 8 games. I don't see Campazzo getting more minutes than Hyland by the end of the calendar year.
P.S. Did you notice who leads the Nuggets in minutes played? Barton

Thanks, I have been trying to check in occasionally but have been crazy busy with work.
The issue as I have mentioned in other threads is that Facu nor Dozier nor anybody but Bones off the bench can break down their defender and get into the paint.
Even healthy last year it was obvious that Murray and JOkic were the only 2 dependable players we had that could break down their defenders, Barton when he is playing well can do it as well. Morris it depends heavily on the matchups. MPJ looks better at it this year than he had prior. Dozier, Rivers, the Greens, Gordon, and Campazzo all struggle to beat their man one on one.
I don't think the issue can be fixed by anyone on the bench. They showed a plus minus with the bench guys tonight and Bones was the only 1 in the positive and was clearly way ahead of the others. Bones's best skill is being fearless and beating his man off the dribble.
