He is far more skilled than either of those guys though. They have to play like that to stay in the league. He played really good defense at times last without that kind of play style.

Skill does not necessarily equate to being better. I've been more impressed by Green and Alize's combined 61 minutes of preseason play than anything I've ever seen from PWill up to this point. PWill's motor and confidence/assertiveness are questionable at best.

"Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard."

Not to say that PWill hasn't been working hard, but talent doesn't mean jack **** if you're too scared to use it. In all likelihood, Green and Alize are better players than PWill is right now, and we're no longer in a position to be giving out entitlement minutes to project players.

And if we're being completely honest, most of the upside with PWill is based on his youth, athleticism, length, and assumption that he'll improve and get more confident as he gets older. In terms of skills, he hasn't shown the ability to score off the dribble/in traffic, playmake, handle the ball, etc. at anything more than an average ability at best. He's a solid jumpshooter when open, but is his release quick enough to get his shot off with a hand in his face? There's also a real chance that Green and Alize are more athletic than him too, as he's a good athlete but far from a freak one.

This sounds like I'm **** on PWill and completely writing him off, but I still think he'll be a solid player at worst. I just think he, along with everyone else, will have to earn his minutes, and right now he is behind a number of guys. Maybe this will light a fire under him and force him to be agressive once he comes back.

But the good thing is, we're no longer in a position where we need project players like PWill (or Lauri before him) to pan out. That says a lot about how far this team has come.

You haven’t seen Williams play with this team so how do you know they are better?

I think we would all be thrilled if PWill became a 4 time all-star.

Here's some relevant quotes from the Athletic's article regarding his imminent return:

“I wouldn’t say that it’s out of the question,” Donovan said. “But I also wouldn’t say that if he doesn’t play it’s a setback.

“He’s done a really good job working. The medical staff’s done a really good job with him. He was able to get into some linear running right away. He’s been able to do some shooting pretty quickly. And now the next thing was, ‘Can he now start to play?’ And then the biggest thing is how does he respond?”

Williams scrimmaged with teammates who didn’t play much or at all in Sunday’s 102-101 exhibition win at Cleveland. Donovan briefly met with Williams to gauge how he felt in the aftermath, and he relayed that his ankle felt fine. But the Bulls will monitor Williams closely over the coming days before determining his availability for Friday.

More importantly, it seems Williams will now be in the opening-night lineup at Detroit on Oct. 20. The Bulls will take Tuesday off, but Williams is scheduled to undergo another workout. If he remains pain-free and can deal with the soreness, he’ll inch another step closer to rejoining the lineup.

“He’ll have to continually be able to respond well from the work they’re putting him in to be in position,” Donovan said.

“If he’s OK and feeling good and there’s no setbacks, just keep ramping up the level of contact that he would have competitively. We’re out of a stage of him just being 1-on-0 workouts; just getting shots up. Or linear running. He’s playing now.”

I trust the new management to make the right decisions regarding injuries.

I can't think of any reasons to rush PW back. If someone else can, let it roll...

4-6 weeks for a sprained ankle was really on the high side of being cautious. It didn't require surgery or anything associated with a grade 3. I'm not surprised he's ready to play.

I hope so, but with the Bulls injury luck, that "could" doesn't have me holding my breath.

basically what @kodo said. he's not being rushed. it was a silly first report of "severe" and in reality it was probably just a routine grade 2 (closer to grade 1) sprain and it was 4-6 weeks at most. he's practicing and will probably play a dozen or so minutes on Friday.

The team is quite healthy overall, not sure where any of this doom and gloom around injuries is coming from. We shipped out a bunch of injury prone guys.

I'll go ahead and make a sig bet that Mikal is better by RPM this year than Zach.

Well, September 15th was literally 4 weeks ago, so they were more or less right.

If you think about the impact that Javonte Green had in the starting line up and really look at it as him being a forgotten man out there because of the gravitational pull of Lonzo, Vuc, Zach and DeRozen I really think that Pat in that role has an amazing chance to break out this season.

If he can focus on defensive energy and building up his confidence in his offensive game oh boy we could be in for something special

The defensive concerns last year i think come down to him being 19, no pre season and barely any training and also having to defend the opposing teams best player but also HAVING ZERO DEFENSIVE HELP especially on the perimeter and on help.

Safe to say i have high hopes and lads.... I'm excited!

I remain wholly unimpressed by Matas and would be very upset not only if we trade up fo him, but if we even draft him at 11

It’s true though right? Aren’t there only 4 of them? Dotson doesn’t count.

With so many new faces, how can it be false? What he said is simply true by default.

I misread it, I missed the "the" before the word "defense".
