I mean I get it because I do it too, but if you really really think about it, the fact that we care so much about these guys personalities is kind of on us. I mean their opinion has the same value as any random person, and no more than that, so it's kind of weird we choose to pay so much attention to it and get bothered by it. Can easily just watch hoops and enjoy what these guys are really good at and shut down the rest.

Wise words...I think the thing that bothers me is that Kyrie is so freakin talented yet constantly looking for excuses to not play. It's a lack of appreciation of the position he's in.

Finally y'all coming around on Poole. His trajectory is amazing.

I don’t really care what Kyrie does, but this leak about “mandates being the reason” is the first of about 4 leaks that lead to Kyrie becoming fully vaccinated, while saving face for “caving” to the man.

He’s obviously an anti-vaxxer, which okay, fine. Don’t make up this nonsense though. The vaccine existed for what? 8-9 months before the mandates existed? Non-anti-vax Kyrie would have gotten it those 8 months.

It’s all so obnoxious on his end.

Wiggins contract is still sitting there to be traded too for something they might need more or if a star forces their way out somewhere.

I mean I’m not going out of my way to dig into Kyrie’s personality. It’s just THE dominant point of conversation and if you are a hoops junkie and listen, read, and watch all basketball media, it’s everywhere.

Also, while their opinion may not have any more value than any other random person, they have a massively bigger platform. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to be frustrated by dumb, harmful positions that star players hold due to the way bigger voice/influence they have, even if in a vacuum their opinion isn’t more or less valuable than the average person.

Ironically, Kyrie is singlehandedly giving the "shut up and dribble" crowd an infinite amount of ammunition. I mean, before social media and the internet age, we used to just call these people crazy and rightfully ignore their dumb thoughts. He deserves and should be mercilessly mocked for his moronic opinions because, yes, "public shaming" sometimes actually is a positive tool used for good.

That stipulates that the "shut up and dribble" viewpoint is based on a principled view that athletes with an outsized influence and platform shouldn't use said influence and platform to speak on social and cultural and political issues. When in reality its because they don't agree with the viewpoints those athletes expressed. And in this instance they largely agree with Kyrie's stance so you're not going to hear that from them.

I think Popovich retires anyway this year, but the Spurs getting Ben Simmons would be like Deron Williams/Sloan all over again.

We're on like year 3 or 4 of me questioning why Pop is continuing to coach and being sure it's going to be his last year so who knows with him. I mean he's 72 years old and he can't really need the money so it has to be just purely for love of the game and the process which you have to respect because the Spurs are like the most forgettable and "meh" team in the league right now.

He wants the wins record. But he and Belichik are doing the same thing, trying to coach up mediocre young talent while jettisoning away stars.

When I look at Kyrie, I just shake my head and think how much damage even that slightest bit of Duke education did.

This is exactly right. Kyrie was liking a ton of anti-vax stuff and now he has changed the narrative. Only a short step more to totally caving. He is not a man of principle. He's like Rodman. He wants to be different, just because.
