Also loved that Sims got benched. That should wake him up a bit.

lets be honest...sims has the IQ of a door nob. He's got a lot to learn about rotations and blocking out and overall defense before you can trust him on the court. He's got a lot of athleticism but he is a deer in headlights out there.

because the games actually matter?
That's the whole point, preparation for when they actually matter. That's what he's using preseason for. To build the right habits and chemistry for when the games matter.
preparation happens all over the place. Practice habits, film session, scouting. And yes preseason to a certain extent.
But its a long season (longer than last year). And you need your horses for the regular season + the playoffs if this is going to be a succesfull year. Playing guys regular season minutes in the preseason makes zero sense to me.
Also our young guys need some burn too because if there is an injury you would like guys like McBride/Grimes to actually have some run with some guys they may play with during the regular season.
Thibs also plays guys up 20 with a couple minutes in the regular season...is that building habits too or is thibs just a nut job with minutes. What makes him a great coach also is his biggest weakness, he plays every minute of every game to win. He has to learn from his CHI days...he burned those guys out, lets not do the same here. While most of the teams that are really successful treat the regular season as a build up to the post season.
Did you see how they were playing before he snapped? The proof is there, no matter how much you practice, watch film, whatever, guys still lose focus and fall into bad habits. Preseason, regular season, Thibs has been around long enough and he knows this happens. Trying to keep guys sharp and focused is tough, getting them to buy in game in game out is tough, especially when you have added new starters and you got young players mixed in the rotation. Not to mention a franchise that has been losing for years, lacked direction for years, coaches came and tried to do all the things you mentioned for years, didn't work. Thibs is different, but what he's doing is working. We aren't that talented so we need guys to be in tip top shape, to be willing to listen, to accept his criticism, to adjust and overall buy in. I don't care about McBride or Grimes getting 5-10 minutes in a preseason game, as if them getting some burn and then sitting on the end of the bench is going to cause some benefit or speed up their development. Lets get real, it won't. If those guys are legit, their time will come. As for Chicago and him burning guys out, nonsense. Thibs gave them the best chance to win, they were just never better than the Lebron lead teams to overcome him, just like every team in the conference. Maybe if we were actually that good, we would be blowing teams out in the regular season and our bench could be good enough to hold it down so we can cruise to victories. Is that who we are? No, so Thibs will do what he has to do with what he has to win. We aren't that good and he knows it.

Yeah. The game is too much of a struggle for him if his jumper is off to see star player potential to me. He’s still a very good high end role player imo at his peak which is solid but kinda disappointing for a top 3 pick

he just started playing basketball recently. He doesn't really have a sense of where to be on the court. He never boxes out, his rotations are late. I don't know him personally so I wont talk about his intelligence.his basketball intelligence just isn't there. And that just isn't a rookie thing.
You can see Duece McBride knows what he's doing out there. Sims is in the league because he can run and jump for a big guy. He is a ball of clay the kicks are taking a shot at maybe developing into a decent NBA player one day.

Right its not there, due to lack of experience...Mitch often looked like this as a rook too...we gotta be patient.

I need to see improvement in that area. I know they are coaching him about it because he is starting to pass instead of force. Now he needs to get craftier and stop playing for and 1's, go up strong.

I wouldn't compare Mitch to Sims. Mitch was a menace...he was just ultra aggressive. If Sims is in the league in a few years that would be considered a win for him.

I was comparing the rawness. They are differentt players but Simms could also become a menace... on the boards.... and Simm also showed some nifty offensive moves already.

RJ continues to have the poor handle no quick first step zero lift issue he's had since his rookie year.
In spite of all that, he's still a decent player and good to have as a 3rd or 4th option.
He's just about the Charles Oakley of SG's. Run a couple of plays for him so he gets some baskets and then he'll hustle his ass off and do all the little things to help a team win the rest of the game.

Cmon dawgs, we're playing our starters vs Pistons' 3rd-4th stringers (sans J Grant) late in 4th Q, then some more up 12 with only 2 mins to go after a timeout...
I understand if you (as a young player/ rook) don't get PT because you suck, but if you don't get PT because you don't get PT at expense of running our starters down to the ground early in season, it's really not your production that's the problem. The coach is a mfkin psycho.

You could also be happy we drafted between 4-8 NBA player level guys in 4 years. That is actually really impressive considering pick #3 was the highest pick in that group. Teams with way better picks have done worst than the Knicks.
