The Ball family don’t need your protection mate, they’re doing fine without your help.

I mean, I wanted to trade up to number one to get LaMelo; others weren't sure if he was as good of a prospect as Lonzo, who up until recently had been a bit underwhelming as a top pick. There wasn't really a consensus opinion here.

Yeah, I'm a dissenter turned convert. Just to add - anyone suggesting 'Melo was a sure thing pre-draft is blinded by Ball love or deluded. Half the draft heads out there had the same worries as the skeptics on this board and the more fair-minded here who liked him had some similar but diminished doubts. Those coming here pretending that everyone here hated the pick (there was a lot of love here for 'Melo) or that those who doubted the pick were "just hatin'" can get bent. There was a good deal of understandable and rational skepticism, pro and con 'Melo. So much strange cult of personality nonsense in this country - blinds us from even the simplest of dialogues. That being said - 'Gelo' on the summer league team? I HATE it! Gelo sucks! (Actually, think it's pretty cool - hope he shows us something).

I was probably one of the biggest Anti-Melo dudes pre draft.

I feel like my reluctance to draft him was based on very legitimate questions regarding his shot form (which he said didn't need any correcting), athleticism, defense, and perceived maturity/circus family issues.

Since he got to Charlotte, he appears to have been a model teammate, has shown a desire to smooth out his jumper, has been more of a passer and way less of a chucker, gives more effort on defense than anticipated, and has stayed out of the media circus (even his dad as well, from what I can remember).

As a result, I'm a total convert and have been a very vocal supporter of his and what his development can mean for the franchise moving forward. Assuming nothing changes and he continues to play like he showed in his rookie year then he's a future star in the league for a long time.

I don't think there's a single poster on here who is still anti-Melo.

I am surprised by how much I like Gelo's game. Maybe its because he played with a gifted PG his whole life but he seems to know what is required to play off of an elite PG. He is always sprinting ahead, running the floor. Setting up in spots that spread the floor. Not forcing anything. Moving the ball if he doesn't have a shot. Smart cutter. Good rebounder. Pushes the ball ahead if he gets a rebound. Appears strong enough to guard 2s/3s. Yeah I wish he was rangier and more agile but this team could use a modern SG like this to pair with Melo. I find myself rooting for Gelo to make the team

For what he does, I agree. However, he’s a spot-up shooter, decent rebounder, and an effort guy. Bouknight is a better all around player.

G3lo is a proven champion, MVP and All-Star. Bouk still needs to prove himself.

fr I'd take LiAngelo over Cody Martin at this point. I think we've taken a step back in shooting, at least for this season - going from Graham and Monk to Ish, Bouknight, and Oubre. Too many average to bad shooters in the mix if we keep Cody

Feel like he was given the opportunity to shine last night and instead had a tough night; best case scenario now seems like the Swarm signing him so he can spend the year in Greensboro

Don't think he's ready, but I would be thrilled if we could somehow stash him in Greensboro for another year. I think he needs some time to get back to playing organized ball. He has one skill right now which is shooting. He's got to get better off the dribble, to avoid people aggressively closing out on his shots.

I'd be shocked if he wasn't given a training camp invite and put in Greensboro. Very good shooter and hes strong as an ox. Also played his heart out in SL. He has a lot to prove.
