Welp, we took the L. That said, it was nice to have the games all broadcasted this year. Spend the next week in camp getting guys into better shape and trying to shore up some of our holes. Also hope Gupta is still on the lookout for some size. Hyped for the regular season.

would think if there was a simple Layman or Okogie +2nd rnd pick for a competent PF that is buried on a team it would have been done already

Beasley definitely still getting his legs back into shape. Hard to shoot jumpers without legs.

I also think Ant is a little out of shape still, which is affecting his jumper. We forget that he seriously sprained his ankle at the Team USA camp. I wonder how much cardio he got in the offseason.

I can be hard on these guys, but the truth is when shoot 25% from 3 and you keep it within 20 you did something right. In our case it was defense and forcing turnovers. We kept coming back and coming back, against a team that hit 41% of their 3s. If we have Dlo who knows. Either way we need to shoot better going forward, we just do.

Was only able to catch a little of the first quarter - how did we look overall? Were the Nets playing their regular rotation later in the game?

Nets pulled their quality players early in the 4th (don’t quite remember how early.) We followed suit and finished with Layman, Bolmaro, Beasley, Nowell, and Reid. Ant had a bad shooting game going 2-8 from distance and missing all his long 2s. He proved that when attacks he usually gets rewarded, but was hesitant to attack. KAT was too passive, but when he sat everything went to hell both times. Overall our defense kept us in it, but they were on fire from distance and we were ice cold. Also worth noting that while they ran ball screen action and used Durant and Harden to create for their other shooters, our spacing was bad and we did not prioritize our shooters.

So there was a play where Vando is fouled and lands funny and before shooting the free throws is holding his ankle on the ground. After the first free throw Layman asks him something (I suspect it was is your ankle okay,) and Vando says I don’t know man. I looked it up and confirmed Vando did suffer a sprained ankle. Still chortling over a lot of the reactions. 1985 called and it wants its power forward back. This game - like the vast majority of games in the NBA - was decided by shooting and spacing. Other than when the Nets dragged out the LaMarcusaurus, they initiated offense outside the arc and buried threes at a terrific rate or penetrated because help had to stay out on the shooters. If KAT boxes out Claxton the first two possessions are empty chances for the Nets. Clearly adding a plodder to chase on the perimeter would have helped (green font not used, but implied). Let's not forget that Denver - despite starting one of the biggest frontcourts in the NBA - still jacked up 58 threes against the Wolves last week. I'm more concerned about Beasley's shot selection - figuring his legs (and stroke) will eventually return.
