Just wondering, did Harden do this back in Houston. I mean he mentors Nic like his little brother. KD did look out for him too but there was no such connection like with beard.

I love to see it, and he picked the right one. Nic is gonna be a monster, Steve and Sean have slow played his development but it's time to unleash him on the NBA. James knows it, and he can maximize Claxton's impact.

Being able to rotate Clax, LMA, Blake and Millsap up front is great, and the bull dog unit of Carter, Bembry, Johnson and Brown give us a bevy of options.

Right now it's just developing chemistry and managing to stay healthy.

I’m worried about Harden; he’s playing like a pure PG now. We need him to score more with no Kyrie.

huh? We scored at will. Its about team points not harden. When he needs to score he will. got claxton a million easy dunks. We dont need 30 a night from harden we need 115 a night from the team, which we will easily get with harden getting his and getting others there.

this is not a concern.

Great wrap up to the preseason... my thoughts:

1) we started the 2nd half with Carter/Bembry/Claxton on the floor. We went on a big run and got a bunch of steals and a couple 24 second violations. We had more steals this preseason then i remember like all of last. year. Carter/Bembry bring a new dimensions. tenacious dogs. end to end. and we know claxton is legit on D. We have the pieces to plug in when we want to hound a team on D and change momentum

2) Claxton: viewtopic.php?f=23&t=2129305

3) KD looks great. this is way removed from injury. i expect a special special season.

4) Love mills iq. not a great defender but forces some things to happen on D with smarts and being pesky. not the liability i thought he may be there.

5) Milsap pleasant surprise on the offenisve glass.

6) I dont love LMA as an every day role guy. id glue him to the bench unless blake is out. I think Claxton an Johnson bring more of what we need. LMA also needs to hit threes for me to consider keeping him on the floor. he has a ton of value situation/matchup/depth wise but i hope he isnt getting 18+ minutes a night or starting.

I love Javon Carter. dude is a great fit as a role guy next to Harden, Mills, and eventually (hopefully) kyrie

on the dunk joe harris in one corner, KD in the other corner. then you have a rim roller. there is nothing for the defense to do. you are either allowing a dunk or giving an all time great shooter and open three.

If thats blake or LMA in there, there is no rim threat and no decision for the deffenders to help off the wing and the defense lives with a blake or LMA jumper.

We often talk about elite spacing, but Harden on ball at the middle of the floor with Harris and KD on in the corners is literally unstoppable. A rim roller makes that basically an instant score down the floor.

Claxton needs to be the lead big. Now granted, when we face some of the heavy load centers like Embiid and Jokic, it will be an all hands on deck situation because Claxton's body is still a work in progress. But outside of that? let him play. He provides a weapon on offense and as we can see, he is a defensive terror.

Joe Tsai will need to suck it up and pay that luxury tax to keep Claxton here over the next few years.

When you play guys like Embiid, you can throw Aldridge, Griffin & Millsap out there with Claxton. They can take the punishment, and need to at least be respected on the perimeter. Against most teams I'd rather have an extra guard out there, but with this roster we have the flexibility to match up however we want.

Harden took Claxton under his wing and you can see the budding chemistry the two are developing. He did that with Capela and turned him into a lob monster. Claxton though is an even better defender. This is going to be a special year for Claxton. Can’t wait to see it unfold.

Completely agree with this. The only thing i think that will hold him back is Nash. I admittedly didn’t watch Brooklyn play prior to Harden joining but what I saw from Nash as far as playing time and rotations was pretty awful. I thought even last year it was clear Clax was the best interior defender on the team.

Yeah. There really is no reason not to play him 20+ minutes. For some reason Nash played Griffin especially deeper into the season. Claxton is showing he can distribute from the top and roll but is a better rebounder and lob threat. Harden is stepping up as the vocal leader so I can see him vouching for Claxton to get more of those minutes. Defensively playing him is a no brainer when facing smaller ball lineups. We have a great team even without Kyrie.
