Not in the next several decades. We're not even at a point where gay NBA players can comfortably come out. There's not a single openly gay player in the NBA, and the odds of a group of 450+ people being entirely straight is incredibly low. There are no doubt gay/bi active NBA players, but despite how progressive the league is, it's still not easy for a player to come out.

KD and Kyrie!

Let's be honest, this is all happening with Kyrie because he's angry that KD loves Harden more than him. Harden spoon feeds KD the ball perfectly in stride for open jumpers while Kyrie can't please him like that. Big 3 is actually a love triangle.

Surely 2 guys on the same team have secretly had something going on in what is it... 75 years? Married and on the same team seems like a huge (and improbable) leap past that though.

I'd really be interested to know how the NBA and the player's team would react if an all star player or a team's cornerstone comes out as gay. A James Harden, Kyrie Irving, Klay Thompson, Devin Booker, Ja Morant, Trae Young, Luka etc. caliber type of player. Will anything change in how they are treated by their teammates and fans? Subtle or not? Subliminal or not? How about by their organization?

Absolutely. Though we may not know it.

With young superstars there is a tendency to try and recruit one of their friends to solidify their comfort with the team, even if it is just a 2 way or G-league contract. And Brooklyn recruiting one of Giannis' brother to keep him happy.

So all you need is a superstar player with a partner who could make it for a team. Which seems unlikely by pure random selection, but with the path to the NBA you generally play and hang out with a lot of people who are also trying/capable of making it in the NBA.

But we might never know because there is no need for us to know.

Openly I’m sure they’d be supportive…probably more so if the guy was on a different team though.

You’ve got the remember that a lot, if not a majority of NBA players are religious so while they’re progressive when it comes to racial issues I doubt that extends anywhere near as far when it comes to sexuality.

Chappelle made it very clear he is and and always was accepting of the gay community (unlike the trans community where I think he's still learning how to include, but thats a separate conversation).

He made it pretty clear he was in favor of "love whoever you want". I interpreted a lot of what he said as him making commentary on how people & society lump gender with who you love (all or nothing thinking style). Which is ironic, because its what you're doing by bringing him up in this context that contributes to homophobia... the man's a fking genius/pioneer/has mistakes of his own so don't give him some he hasn't made. I assume unintentionally

Depends on how long humanity survives. Growing up in the 80s racism and homophobia were the default setting. It still is depending where you grow up. We've still only had one to my knowledge one active player publicly state their homosexuality. Have 2 NBA players hooked up before? Have 2 players dated? We don't know that because society isn't ready to hear that yet.

EArl wrote:Before you even get to that point you need an out of the closet gay player to be in the nba. I could see that happening in the next decade or two. Two of them being on the same team is highly unlikely. Statistically speaking, there are not a lot of gay men in the world who are
1.gay
2. tall
3.good enough to play at the NBA level.

Many women who are good in sports are masculine. Quite a few of them are gay.
Many gay man are feminine and therefore not good in sports at all.
The chance this happens with men is far less likely than it is with women.

In the Dutch women soccerteam at least 3 members are openly gay, a Dutch volleyball player (w) has a relation with a Brazilian player ( I think they are/were team mates) and 2 Dutch ice skating women are married.

I don't know the answer to the OP's question.

But I know that, if/when that happens, the NBA will surely find a way to profit from it.

in 75 years you can be SURE that something has happened at some point behind the scenario.

Will it happen in public sometime?

maybe ,if progress to openess keeps going on and no "taliban strike backs" happens in occidental world ( 50% chance).

IMO i will not be for it as in:

Im all for a player being gay and being publicly married to another man.
Thats ok, absolutley.

But not with a workmate

i mean, in my work im FORBIDEN to date a workmate.
and that is not an strange ocurrence most jobs out there have regulations about that.
Because it can be disruptive to the dinamics of the job.
