There's plenty of iterations of Bruce looking emo in the comics. He's in year 2 and doesn't care much for being Bruce. He's a recluse that's slowly letting Bruce's looks and reputation go to the wayside for staying out all night as Batman. Eventually he understands he has to keep up both appearances or his identity could be in jeopardy, then you'll probably see more of the playboy, eccentric billionaire we normally see.

Y: The Last Man not getting a second season at FX on Hulu. The sucks. The show runner isn't giving up though, looking for another network.

The trailer didn't do much for me and I've been sick of superhero movies for a while, but a good cast and Matt Reeves are still enough for me to be interested.

Finished the 4th and final season of Goliath on Prime. A David Kelly legal show starting Billy Bob Thornton. The latest season featured JK Simmons and Bruce Dern. Sometimes contrived as most legal/crime shows are but enjoyable.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

That sucks. Quality show, but it's probably too expensive. Have been waiting for an adaptation for so long, so it's been nice to see it brought to the screen with all the thoughtful updates. Hope it lands somewhere but I'm not holding my breath.

Warning, season 2 is a bit incoherent and I almost stopped watching. It steadies itself in later seasons and the final season is great. Enjoy, fun weird and well done series.

Yes, this is my take on the show. Arguably my favorite show ever.

It kinda got crap luck by a combination of two things:

1. Having season 1 come out in like the final year before the streaming services officially stomped out weekly cable/network shows.
2. Having said season 2 come out in the year where it needed badly to keep the attention due to #1.

But I thought the ending/final season was spectacular.

The show was so good and their acting mattered so little that I forgot/barely noticed, but yes, it was bad.

These are barely spoilers but I'll put it in a spoiler.

Spoiler:
I talk a lot about gambling. I would not be talking about gambling like they did haha.

I wonder if the bad acting was somewhat due to the fact that they basically casted/scripted those guys like a caricature of "rich American billionaire guy" as people from other countries probably see. And of course, we do the same **** back, I'm not offended or anything like that.

Ironically watching The Sopranos right now, just finished Season 2 last night. Having a blast so far, hard to control myself and stop.

buckboy wrote:Being a "mob" show is not what made the Sopranos great, nor is that a true descriptor for it.

Tony Soprano is the greatest and most complex antihero I'm aware of in any art form, certainly television. It's an extremely intelligent show.

I, too, just finished it 15 years too late. I burned through it and just finished it last week.

I agree with buckboy's take.

I am probably forgetting a show or two, but here are the shows I can think of that when I finished, it had me reeling/thinking about the show/feeling emotional for a couple of days.

1. Lost
2. Mr. Robot
3. Breaking Bad
4. Sopranos
5. Friday Night Lights
6. Squid Game...maybe, but that may be just due to the fact that I watched it in the moment with everyone.

I knew what was coming at the end to some degree and had gotten plenty of random spoilers since I was 15-20 years late and it was still arguably my favorite ever.

I'm probably forgetting one or two.

But speaking of shows that I "tried to get into a few times but couldn't" is the Wire. Probably partially due to my wife not being into it, but I've gotten through 5-7 episodes twice and didn't get past. I think I might've felt that way about an episode or two of Sopranos like the poster from a few pages back, but man, once I finally did get into it...it was so good.

I'm into it this time in my "watching a show 15 years too late" phase and I think I'll finish it in a few weeks/months (kids suck for this). I'll report back later.

emunney wrote:Sopranos built the context for modern TV. It's not the ordinary "old" show. It's not really a Mafia show either despite literally being one. It's a Mafia show in the same way Watchmen is a superhero comic, as a deconstruction.

I have a friend that has watched Sopranos like 10x through. He just puts it on as his background show. He was loving every moment of me watching it 15-20 years after release and reliving it with him.

His take is that you will think it's the greatest ever once you realize the plot barely matters and it's actually one of the funniest shows of all time (as a deconstruction, as you say).

Dopesick (Hulu) is well done. Reminds me some of Chernobyl. I know embarrassingly little about the opioid epidemic and this show has really fueled my interest.

Ready to get flamed, I suppose.

"Sopranos" suffers from mediocre acting outside of Falco and Gandolfini. The music cues are obvious and Chase leans way too heavy on dream interludes, but I found the Kevin Finnerty arc legitimately moving. Apples to oranges comparison, but the far superior effort at depicting the mafia in decline was "Ghost Dog."
