Report: Celtics to re-sign Jabari Parker
By Keith P Smith | Oct 19, 2021, 7:12pm EDT |
https://www.celticsblog.com/2021/10/19/22735581/report-boston-celtics-to-re-sign-jabari-parker
The Celtics signed Parker to a two-year contract in mid-April of last season. That deal had Parker’s salary at $2,283,034 for the 2021-22 season. Parker’s contract triggered a $100,000 guarantee this offseason. The contract was set to become 50% guaranteed had Parker remained on the Celtics on that deal on opening night.
By waiving Parker, Boston eats the $100,000 amount, but lowers Parker’s 2021-22 cap hit to $1,669,178. That will save the Celtics $513,856 towards their luxury tax payment.

If Kanter doesn't produce this year hes probably out of the league due to pissing off Xi. Not good for the revenue of the league.

For sure. He shouldn't have gone there, but if he felt like it, good for him.
Good assessment:

Re: Official Celtics 2021-22 Season Thread
I'm admittedly a huge Langford booster and need to say that up front. Acknowledging that, I really think he's going to be our biggest X factor over the course of the season. We're seeing the offensive skill emerging to match up with his defense, but he seems like he's feeling his way as to how much he should do at any one time. He doesn't have the confidence yet to step up when a team hyperfocuses on a J and dares the others to beat them. He's not one to step in and beat those teams.
Yet.
That's where his coaches and teammates need to continue nurturing him. We saw that with the celebration of Langford's game-winner in Preseason Game #1, and then with Brown's supportive comments about his play last night. They need to do more. Langford was artificially held back with the injuries and other absences eliminating his training time. Now he needs to learn what he can do with the skill he's refined, but he needs to be embraced and trusted on the court to develop his capabilities. I don't think he feels that yet, which in some ways is positive as it reflects a desire to fit in rather than "get his". He doesn't seem to have it in his character yet to seek to be an alpha, as he did tend to stay within his complementary role during Summer League and deferred to Pritchard and then Nesmith.
But the NBA is different. Right now the coaches intend to keep one of the two J's on the court at all times. By the end of the season, if the Celtics are to be their best selves, I think they have to reach the point that Udoka makes sure he keeps two of Tatum, Brown and Langford on the court at all times. That doesn't mean Langford is an all-star. Rather, Langford is the Celtics' best hope of developing a third two-way wing who can step in and let the team function on both ends without a significant loss when Tatum or Brown sit. Nesmith and Pritchard might be better raw shooters, but Langford I think has better ability to get his shot while creating for his teammates and defending at the other end. Ultimately I think he's the one we need to grow if we're going to be a contender at season's end.

Langford's offense in the Knicks game consisted of efficient scoring plus a bunch of TOs. That's not the obvious profile of a guy who lacked confidence.

Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything

No, I think it's time to be concerned. For starters, Tatum has to realize that he's not God's gift to the NBA. And so long as he keeps complaining, the refs will give him nothing, and opposing players know that. So he's going to have to deal with physical defenders.
The other big issue is the rotation. Udoka hasn't figured out who wants to play hard and who doesn't. Find nine guys who have some self respect and put them on the floor night after night. Stevens can always find new homes for the ones who have no shame.

Tatum is 15/44 in FG (4/19 in 3P).
That will change tomorrow. People are just overreacting, as usual.

Re: Official Celtics 2021-22 Season Thread
They have similarities to last year's team already. Getting out effort'D and losing to teams they should best. That's why their record was so mediocre last year.
