Always blows my mind that all of them made it to the NHL! What are the chances of that? Makes you wonder how much of their success is due to the foundation that they had.

NHL have had so many good Brother combos..

Phil and Tony Esposito
Scott and Rob Niedermayer
Maurice and Henri Richard
Pavel and Valeri Bure
Henrik and Daniel Sedin

Don’t the Stall brothers have a couple in the the NHL as well? Like more than two?

It really doesn’t surprise me as someone who’s lived in Canada his whole life. When you see how hockey families live in this country, its no wonder to me. Its also the reason more and more NBA players are the sons of ex players ( pro or not ) or the sons of great athletes ( wiggins and gordon ). Guys who grew up in poor neighborhoods used to fill the NBA but thats a thing of the past now. The people with the best opportunities is how these leagues are gonna be attained from here on. And yes, Giannis lived in a car, there will always be exceptions for “freaks”.

When your dad was freaky tall, good chance you will be too. Means ALWAYS helps but the first 10 steps to making any pro sports league are genetics, genetics, genetics...

Obviously I’m not talking about if you’re 5’4 lol. Seth and Steph aren’t exactly genetic phenoms.. but they did have the best trainers, coaches and opportunities. The pool of 5’10 to 6’4 point guards all trying to make the NBA is massive. If you want an actual shot, its oppurtinity that will get you there, your genetics did all they could. And that height is average to above average, so nothing that’s exactly wow. But yes, like I said, genetic freaks like Giannis are always gonna be looked for.

Also, my dad and mom are like 5’7 and I’m 6’3 lol. Family pics with my 5’3 sister always looked funny :)

This is the answer, but most people here only know NBA, NFL and MLB lol.

Eli Manning is nowhere near as good of a football player as the Klitschko are boxers. But Peyton makes it somewhat close.

Don't diss Eli too much. He finished in the top ten for career passing yards and both of his SB victories were over the Bellicheat/Brady Patriots.

And here is food for thought: Cooper Manning, the oldest brother, was an excellent football player, just as good as his brothers according to Archie, Peyton, and Eli. He was already committed to the Univ. of Mississippi, but a diagnosis of spinal stenosis ended his career before it had a chance to take off. And Archie wasn't a bad QB despite the stats: he was stuck on those 1960's horrible Saint teams, some of the worse in NFL history.

Quite the athletic family.

Well at 6'3 you're in the top 2% of men's height in the US. Add in that shooting is genetic too. Those fine motor skills can be improved but the people who excel in those areas were also just born with better natural talents for it and better maximal abilities too.

Come one, the "combined" stat is missleading.

Was it Bill Wennington who once said something like "MJ and I combined for 56 points" (MJ had 54 and Wennington - if it was him - had 2 or something like that). :D

Team sports:

- NBA: has to be the Gasol brothers.
- Overall: Mannings. Yeah, Eli wasn't very good, but he does have 2 championships. And Payton is on the all time greats list.

Until a few months ago, I would have said: Mikal and Miles Bridges could be the best NBA brothers in the future.

Then I realized they aren't brothers.

I couldn’t disagree more with the “shooting is genetic”. All of the skills I’ve aquired through life are from me learning them and training them. I didn’t have a better “shooting genetic “ than any of the guys next to me, the reason I was better is because I trained better and way more.. but mostly way more. And the reason NBA players are even better is because they made my training look like a joke. And going forward, the best training and best opportunities at maxing out training time will all belong to a select group.

NASCAR has a few examples.. Bobby and Terry Labonte, both champions within a 4 year span, Kurt and Kyle Busch, both champions and will both be hall of famers.

It wasn't misleading, it was needed to make the joke work. I consider any aggravation caused a bonus.

Reminds me of this classic.

Well, currently you have the 3 Holiday brothers. And back in baseball, you have Joe, Dom, and Vince Dimaggio.

Sorry man but that's just not true. It's genetic. Same reason spud web could 360 dunk at 5'6 and guys who train for years at that height never get to the rim. And keep in mind...you were playing basketball with people who were CHOOSING to play basketball. The guys who are the worst at it, stop when they're really young. Same reason why a lot of guys think everyone can get big lifting weights because everyone in the gym with them gets big...but the guys who just don't have the genetics for it stop working out because they aren't getting results while the guys who get instant results keep going.

Results: Hand motor skill was significantly familial (maximum heritability=41%), as were reading-related measures. Hand motor skill was weakly but significantly correlated with reading-related measures, such as nonword reading and irregular word reading. However, these correlations were not significantly familial in nature, and the authors did not observe linkage of hand motor skill to any chromosomal regions implicated in susceptibility to dyslexia. Lateralization of hand skill was not correlated with reading or cognitive ability.

5. Conclusion
Despite limitations of sample size and intervening factors, such as other PMAs

underlying the experimental tasks, the findings of this study suggest that partial
support was given to the three Laws of Behavior Genetics (Turkheimer, 2000), as
high proportions of variance on the performance were attributable to 1) genetic
factors for rate control only, 2) shared environment for hand-eye coordination
and finger dexterity, and 3) nonshared environment for rate control, simple
reaction time, and manual force control.

Fencer reregistered wrote:Best baseball pairs I can think of not yet mentioned. All were pitchers.

Gaylord and Jim Perry -- both won Cy Young Awards. Gaylord won one in each league.
Dizzy and Daffy Dean -- see Wikipedia excerpt below.
Pedro and Ramon Martinez -- Ramon was an All-Star once and also threw a no-hitter.

Dean played several years of baseball alongside his better-known brother, Jay. Because of his brother's nickname, "Dizzy", Dean also had a nickname, Daffy, but this did not reflect his personality as he was considered quiet and serious. The nickname was mainly a creation of the press.[1]

During his rookie season (at the age of 22), Dean pitched a no-hitter on September 21, 1934 in the second game of a doubleheader against the Brooklyn Dodgers. Dizzy (who had pitched a three-hit shutout in the first game) would say afterwards: "Shoot! If I'da known Paul was gonna pitch a no-hitter, I'da pitched me one too." Paul finished the year with a 19–11 record to help St. Louis win the National League pennant. Combined with his brother becoming the only NL pitcher in the live-ball era to win 30 games, the brothers bettered Dizzy's prediction that "me 'n' Paul are gonna win 45 games" by four wins. In the World Series, he and his brother won two games apiece, combining for a 4–1 record, 28 strikeouts and a 1.43 ERA, as the Cardinals took the series against the Detroit Tigers in seven games.

The following year, Dean won 19 games again. He got injured, however, and pitched ineffectively for the rest of his career.

The Deans (200 wins) are way down the list for most MLB wins by brothers behind the:
Leiters (227)
Reuschels (230)
Weavers (254)
Hernandezes (264)
Forsches (282)
Coveleskis (296)
Martinezes (352)
Mathewsons (373, but all by Christy)
Clarksons (three brothers who played in the 1800s)
Madduxes (394)
Perrys (529)
Niekros (539)

BTW, the Niekros grew up across the street from John Havlicek, and Phil Niekro and Havlicek were best friends (Phil was one year older).
Just because it happened to you, doesn't make it interesting.

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is.

I know the question is about brothers, but I will extend it to brother and sister

Reggie and Cheryl Miller

Steven Adams and Valerie Adams. Valerie is a New Zealand shot putter. She is a four-time World champion, four-time World Indoor champion, two-time Olympic champion

I was looking for Reggie and Cheryl Miller. Cheryl Miller is arguably the greatest female basketball player of all time, though she came up in the pre-WNBA era. They'd be my team sports pick for siblings. Obviously Reggie Miller is a HOF player in his own right and led multiple teams deep into the playoffs.

Anthony Parker and Candace Parker would be up there also.

Other notables:
Brett and Aaron Boone
Jim and John Paxson (both of whom have been GMs at the NBA level)
Derek and David Carr
Mo (AL MVP winner) and Greg Vaughn (played a long, productive career)
Wilkins Bros (Dominique and "The Jordan Stopper" Gerald)
Brent and Mark Price

Future brother pair to look out for: Fernando and Elijah Tatis
