dude was on point.

Simmons’ lack of competitiveness in some crucial games has raised questions about his character as a basketball player. While many top picks succumb to the NBA star lifestyle and emerge as average competitors, it’s rare to see that at the collegiate level. From Blake Griffin to Michael Beasley to Carmelo Anthony, those elite college players were rarely questioned about their drive during their collegiate careers. Simmons has displayed an apathy for defense, contact and delivering winning plays in crucial moments. Those troubling revelations in Simmons’ game are cause for concern among decision-makers on lottery teams with whom we’ve had contact.

Here’s what NBA teams wonder: If Simmons cares so little about winning crucial college road games at Tennessee or Kentucky that could have delivered LSU to the NCAA tournament, how much will he consistently care about competing over a far more physically and mentally draining 82-game pro season? Truth be told, Simmons will almost assuredly be on a bad team that will need to fight every night to win games.

The most surprising thing today isn't what transpired at 'practice'... it's how a lot of people are reacting to it like somehow they thought the Simmons/Sixers drama was over. That somehow he was back with the team, he'd practice, the season would start he'd play... He'll show up at a Sixers home game and play and get bood a ton.

Like somehow THAT'S how this was all going to play out and there wasn't still more degrees of s*** storm to play out.

I'm just gonna assume he's constantly wearing Jeans and Timbs. Ben "Deadass" Simmons.

You know a few years ago when Jimmy Butler was running wild in Minnesota. The 76ers were that team that thought they could make it work with Jimmy. There will be teams that feel the same way and will make a good offer for Ben. Management just has to be patient. I mean as long as we make the playoffs with a healthy Embiid and what we they get for Ben the 76ers should be a team to be feared.

Ben for Kawhi? Wasn't Brett in charge then too? Would have been crazy.

I just read that ownership blocked Elton’s attempts to trade Ben. I think it was as they were transitioning from Brett to Elton. Reportedly Ben was in the Kawhi trade talks.

So Kyrie for Simmons anyone? If thats on the table you take it. Will not get anywhere near a good player ever. Go all in to win this year.

You are presuming super wealthy people have ever answered or adhered to the same set of expectations and rules that the rest of us do. I know plenty of people who are extremely wealthy, hire working class folks to do some job or project for them, then refuse to pay or only partly pay and tell the guy/gal who did the work and didn't get paid to sue them for it. I love your take on this and does it make sense, sure, in the world most of us live in. Nothing about professional athletics at the major league level is anything like a life we lead. This is rich people crap, don't go painting them with the brush everyone else gets painted with or vice versa, they are two entirely different planes of existence, totally different rules and expectations that apply.

The difference here is that the wealthiest usually have a ton of leverage, owners leverage cities for new stadiums and arenas, players and teams and marketing/broadcast folks leverage each other to get every last dollar possible out of our pockets, and players leverage contract situations to get themselves traded...but that is the thing, Simmons has no leverage here, Rich Paul over reached (while ignoring some of his lesser paid clients no doubt) and Simmons and he have now put themselves in a position that is well beyond any leverage they thought they had.

Also, what pisses people off in Philly, and rightfully so, is pretty meh in other places, especially if you are the receiving team and have the version of the guy ready to play and happy to be there, I'm not saying it is right, but it is reality, no matter how warped the reality of super wealthy owners and players might seem to those of us that work for a living. Oddly enough I can't remember dating a string of models, super models and reality TV starlets, how about you? It may be stupid and annoying different, but their lives and existences are very different from ours, and I totally feel your outrage and don't disagree with it.

You gotta stop talking dude, I can't tell if you're drunk or just on some other stuff, but really, put the keyboard away. Go take a walk, WooSahh or something.

A chitstorm you say. I am most surprised that that he still is in the losing money business. I am surprised that even though he does not want to be here he is acting like a child, holding a major grudge against Doc and Embiid (not talking to him) and just acting like a child. Embiid for all of his faults ( he is human) is not unapproachable. I recall when Karl Anthony Towns, mother passed away, despite throwing blows at one another, Ebmiid reached out to KAT. Which says a lot about his character. If Ben can't even see his way clear to mend fences with Embiid then Ben is a bigger ass than even I expected.

My issue with Morey is that he was asking for ridiculous trade packages apparently. There's a big difference in "we're not interested in role players" and asking for the moon. There was probably a middle ground that would have been acceptable.

And if you want to see where you fell on the Ben Simmons spectrum 4 years ago, here's a thread I found:

I started team Ben and took a very hard right turn to the Ingram side.

Ownership was pushing for a team that can compete for the championship for a long time with a Ben and Embiid lead team.

I dont know how you can see that after 2018 playoffs.
I know some of us here did though

Jimmy got traded for Dario, Cov and a pick that didn't matter IIRC.

Thats about what I expect for Ben right now and for the foreseeable future. Like the only star to be traded for now is Kyrie, who I love but probably wouldn't want to hitch my wagon to with his own....unique flair lol. It feels like its going to take another disgruntled star to tank his own value...and most of those guys probably have destinations in mind that aren't here and aren't on 4 year deals so they'll have more leverage. This whole situation is buns rn.

Personally I have no clue what is the right decision either. The spiteful version of me would simply let Ben rot. But that has farther reaching consequences with agents (unless the other agents want to **** over Klutch and their power I guess) as I am sure the PA would have to get involved then. The wussy version of me would just take the best deal asap and get it over with. The "smart" thing to do is probably wait for the December deadline of sorts when FAs can be moved again and see if someone is desperate but that is just as risky as we could be one of those desperate broken teams. This team cannot afford to get off to a poor start and considering we are relying on young guys to pick up the slack for a flawed but still all star level dude...that is a lot to ask.

I've said it in the past if I didn't have any rooting interest in this god forsaken team this would be super interesting to see how it plays out. It is a divergence point of sorts for the franchise. Its also probably the last real move we can make before having to take a step back to get off of Tobias' contract. We get this right and then we look back on this and mythicize it. We get it wrong and thats pretty much a wrap and return to either the process 2.0 or return to Dougie Ball on the treadmill. People have been preemptively getting on Morey for his job so far...but this is where he makes his money. Navigating a weird situation is what makes a good GM. Don't think I'd make the right one here but I'll be first in line with my stones to throw lol.

This can't happen. Per reports, Simmons isn't vaccinated so the Nets would run into the same problem that they have with Kyrie.

You can't send him home and continue to fine him. Once you send him home you agree to pay his salary.

The Sixers have to stay the course, maintaining they want him to re-join the team, practice, and play and let him self immolate in order to continue suspending and fining him for conduct detrimental to the club.

He traveled to the UK when it required proof of vaccination. So either he provided FALSE INFORMATION then, or he's deliberately not revealing his vaccination status to further hinder the Sixers.

Yeah...but this sort of thing comes up all the time with prospects, and much of the time it comes to nothing at all. That's why the hindsight game that a lot of realgm posters play is so annoying: every single prospect has a list of strengths and red flags, there's really no way of telling which of those things will come to define them over the next 3-7 years when they enter their prime. All you can do is take what you know at draft time, chose the guy you believe in the most (often based on not much more than hunches), and cross your fingers. Then the player, the situation/team/etc, and a bunch of weird twists and turns writes the rest.

Also Givony's pre-draft criticism isn't accurate since Simmons is in fact shown himself extremely competitive--tries really hard on the court and always gives effort. If his main issue in college was indifference to defense, we just saw him become a truly elite perimeter defender over the past 2 years so that's done. His mental issue is something less direct and clear, not gonna speculate on what is is exactly but it aint this.
