I kind of like her so far. Pretty natural, stays within the flow of the game. Still developing chemistry with Alaa obviously and can be a little overly descriptive (like she was calling on the radio) but overall seems really smooth.
First thing I thought was she talks too much like she has a radio audience. Will get annoying real quick.

Same. But overall i understand why they decided to pair him with Alaa.

She does play by play. Like you can imagine how the game is going even if you shut your eyes. While Alaa does all his weird commentary with his 6 degree of duke connections that only few people care.

But yeah, im more of a guy who adjusts than complains

One thing i noticed is on other teams the two persons covering the game can be natural talking about the game while with Kate Scott and Alaa, they dont have that right now so you get Kate Scott calling play by play like on radio while Alaa makes his signature Alaa remarks and stories

She's fine, but just too much clowning with her and Alaa. Not just them, it's pretty much what you get now from broadcast crews doing basketball or football. After a while, you can't tell them apart, they all sound the same, trying to be hip and clever and making the broadcast too much about them. But at least Scott isn't offensive like so many of the ESPN breed of PBP broadcasters today, so that's a plus. She knows the game and picks her spots when to get excited.

That's the beauty of guys like Zu, who was the one of the last of the breed of announcers who had an real identity but always put the game first and injected humor and personality without the need to force it. When Merrill Reese goes, that's it.

Yeah I don’t love her, but how many people did we go through to replace mix? I think she can be good as she refines her role.

I basically didn't notice her the whole game outside of her saying Tobias' name weird so that's good. Seems like she does prep work and stuff, fine for the first game.

Replacing Alaa with someone serious would be the be the best move they could make. Seems like a very nice guy, but he is dreadful.

Screaming hot take - I can't listen/watch games with Merrill. I kinda hate it rn. Not because he isn't GOATed. Because he is a fan too. When the birds are playing bad his anger and self loathing combines with my anger and self loathing to just absolutely ruin my Sunday. When it's some idiot from FOX I can chalk it up to a bad game and move on.

However, when the Birds are a great team ... It's super dope.

Kalas was fan, as was Zu. Gene Hart as well. That was the beauty of some of these legendary guys - they were either fans to begin with like Merrill or they became fans, but they were brilliant at calling games. I won't totally disagree about Merrill getting a bit negative when things aren't going well, but he and Quick are fantastic together.

I think it's the nature of football. With every other sport you have damn near a hundred games, or more, to just move on to the next. There are moment of disappointment but when you have 82 games, you can just keep it moving. In football, every game is precious. It's like playoff level disappointment every time they lose. Especially back in the day. Like if I had to hear Zoo call that Hawks series every time the Sixers lost a regular season game, I would just go play in traffic.

She's okay, better than I expected. Still I think I will opt for the national broadcasts over NBC when available.

I thought she was good at PBP, but right now is missing the entertainment factor. Whether it's jokes or catch phrases or excitement. But obviously, it's one game so not expected at this point either.

Or they can always bring in Jesse "The Body" Ventura as a third commentator.

Yep, excellent point. What was so great about Kalas and Zu was that because of the length of the seasons you spent night after night with them over so many years that they practically became like extended family members. There was something comfortable about them as if they were in it with you. You don't get that from the newer breed of PBP announcers, mostly clever, overtalking shouters who never let a game breathe. That is definitely a lost art that is likely never returning.

I think some of that will go away when they’re actually in the arena. It’s just a totally different vibe doing a game from a studio hundreds of miles away.

I was pretty impressed, she did well, knows her stuff, didn't overwhelm the game or inject herself too much into it. Smooth delivery, the Tobias quirk is interesting. Hearing her before last night I thought she might be a little over the top, but other than not being Zumoff, and no one can be nor is she trying to be, I was pretty pleased with her performance.

It was great to watch without Marc Zumoff trying to get in as many of his boring catchphrases as possible. Outside of that Celtics idiot, he was the worst to listen to in the NBA.
