I’d be skeptical of this news if it wasn’t for Leonard himself being so forthcoming about it all. A lot of time between now and then so the situation can change but it really does feel like he’ll play this season.

Most of us were guessing April (if at all) but the fact “sources” include March in there wasn’t something I was expecting.

Now that Kawhi is all-in, I don't remember ever seeing him so happy and relaxed.

I’m not surprised by the comments about his “coaching”. While the media was focused/crying over Leonard sitting in the suite during the playoffs Lue was talking about all this. He was sitting in meetings, offering adjustments during halftime. Players said the same thing.

I’m sure the media will be crying about how Leonard isn’t traveling with the team on the road but we’ll hear more of the same from players/coaches.

I still think it was Playoff P's and the team's excellent performance without him--and to a lesser degree the lack of interest in him this summer as a UFA--that got Kawhi all-in. That and the org bending over backwards to give him all the time and room he wants rehabbing his injury [which the Spurs did not, leading to a rather ugly divorce]. He was rather diffident his first year, better in the second after the Bubble embarrassment, but now is a full-fledged Clipper leader and teammate.

He’s traveled with the team and taking part in morning shoot around. Love to see it.

The Clipper fan understands the Book of Exodus better than anyone... what it's like to struggle 40 years in the wilderness... and Genesis.. why Cain went after Abel... So fLakers, look out... we're coming.

Trying to tamp my excitement down since I know he’s a good 2-3 months away. But it’s harder now that they’ve been featuring him a lot more than before.

Not real encouraging for Lue to say that it’s unlikely Leonard returns this season. He’s always been cautious among reports that he’s ahead of schedule, doesn’t want to get too excited about his progress, we’re taking it one day at a time, etc… But this answer felt different.

Ibaka says Leonard is working hard and trying to get back but it’s about time/calendar now.

Batum and Morris have both made similar comments too.

I don’t think I’ve seen him at a game since about a week before Christmas. A lot of road games I know but still. We know he’s around as the players/coach are obviously seeing his progress/workouts.

Even if he came back say by mid or late March, the team would have a long road in the playoffs, unless the team is able to climb to the top 6 without either George or Leonard. They'd have to win the play in and then face #1 or #2 seed in the first round. Then survive that and probably deal with Memphis or Utah, which is struggling now. Denver may also have Murray back, though he's in a similar situation as KL, probably just around a year after his ACL injury.

Does it threaten his overall recovery if he came back earlier?

Maybe, maybe not.

But it seems the case that the longer the amount of time after ACL surgery, the better athletes tend to perform.

There are cases of athletes coming back early. I think Adrian Peterson came back in less than a year and had a huge year.

But other cases where a player is much better in the second year after surgery than after just 9-12 months.

I have a vague recollection of some athletes suffering other injuries because they're not fully recovered from other ones and they favored the leg and put stresses elsewhere.

One thing which can happen is people suffering damage to the patella or patellar tendon after returning from ACL.

So if the Clippers are still in the play-in range a month from now and PG13 still isn't playing, the team and Kawhi will probably do a cost/benefit calculation.
