What is going to surprise most people about Anthony Edwards is he ability and dedication to defend. Take notice early here in his 2nd season. Edwards defense is going to be another plus to his game.

That's true today. We're only starting year two, and Ant's rate of improvement from month to month is astounding. If he keeps improving at this rate, he will overtake Ball by end of the year.

Ant's athleticism is what gives him a higher ceiling than LaMelo IMO.

Dont think he even has the tools too be better than Ball, outside athleticism Ball is better in the other departments, and isnt deprived o atlhleticism too.

I truly think both will be among league top10 players for years to come

So why are people saying Ball is a star then???

Notice I never made a statement about Ball in the game thread. Both these guys played home games against lottery teams. I'm waiting for consistency

So... this year?

We'll see if his team is even a play in team. Pump the breaks unless you're here for And-1s

For sure. Absolute freak athlete that stands out in a league filled with freak athletes. Watching his progression from month to month as a 19 year old last year showed me everything I needed to see. It's like he made 3 seasons' worth of improvements in one (shortened) season. Wouldnt surprise me to see him putting up over 30 ppg very soon and lead the league the scoring in his prime

True but there is still a big gap in their athleticism. Edwards is probably 99th percentile of NBA players and Ball is probably a sliver above average.

Not trying to take anything away from Ball, his skills are unreal at his age. I'm just saying young players like Edwards who started playing basketball competitively at a later age tend to take longer to reach their peak. He's got more room to grow his skills than Ball does.

I'm a believer. I was shocked so many Minny fans were down on him last season until he hit his stride, but you can say the same for Hornets fans as well regarding Ball.

I think both players are going to be very good. Ant's body and athleticism is unreal though. He's looks like an iLebron mini.

So am I for the first time in a loooooong time, going to have to include the Wolves into my rotation? Is he really that good?

I mean, ill go and watch the replay, but if y'all are making him out to be something he's not, it'll show real quick.

If you watched the game you could see the commitment to defense by the whole team. They had EVERYONE out there playing hard on defense and hustling for loose balls. The moment Beasley went crashing into his own bench trying to save a ball (he didn't) but the guys on the bench cheered and lifted him just for the *effort* is when I was like "Whoa". The TWolves are my 1a team to the Hawks and I haven't seen a Twolf team this dedicated to defense and energy since the good KG years.

I realize it is one game against a rebuilding Houston team but if that effort remains all season...watch out. That team can score baskets easy. It is the defense/hustle that is the only thing holding them back.

Meh
He’s one of the worst defensively at his position in the NBA. When you’re good on one end and **** on the other end that makes you an average basketball player and that’s exactly what he has and will always be. 50% of the game is played on the defensive end of the court.

I could see why you would think that based on last season and prior. I can also tell that you haven't been paying close attention to the Wolves so far this year. The buzz through training camp was that Edwards has totally committed himself to playing defense. I'm usually skeptical towards that type of lip service, but he has looked MUCH better defensively in pre-season and in the 1st game. Time will tell if it continues but based on his rapid improvement thus far in other areas, I have no reason to doubt it.

Now that ROY battle is over I can stop acting like Ant isn't a monster. I'm hyped and I think him and Melo are both equally freakish talents in their own totally different ways. That's always been the best part of basketball, that there are so many different archetypes that can shine. Though not as varied as it used to be, sadly

I’ll say it one more time when you’re good on one end and terrible on the other end that makes you an average basketball player I don’t care what kind of highlights you have an ESPN - 50% the game is played on the defensive end of the court. I apologize if this hurts the feelings of the Minnesota fans who are desperate for anything but that’s just the reality of the situation.

Ant Man is a stud. As long as he keeps adding to his game, he’ll be a star.

I wish I had your crystal ball. He just turned 20, 1 game into his sophomore year and you already know exactly how his game will mature — and Edwards will produce rest of his career. Jealous.

Ya I love Edwards overall swag/game/athleticism. He's probably my favorite young player tbh.

It's nothing to do with hurt feelings, but rather it's just blatant ignorance on your part.
