If not, can you explain the difference?

It depends on what he's claiming he's experiencing. "Mentally not ready to play" doesn't necessarily equate to "mental illness" per se. Then again he could be experiencing a mental illness. We would need more information to determine that either way.

Jason Kelce said it best -- just get better. If the guy had worked on his game throughout his NBA career he'd be in a totally different place right now, physically and mentally.

The problem however is that he doesn't appear to be a person who loves the game. There is a decent percentage of us here who have no special love or passion for our jobs. We get up and go to work every day to pay the bills and make a living. There is also a sizeable percentage of players in every professional sport who feel the same way about their "jobs." Simmons appears to be one of them, hence he makes no special effort to improve his craft. Now he's suffering from having been "figured out" by the league. He's no longer an effective player at this level because his skills haven't evolved beyond the league's ability to defend them. He's playing "college basketball" in the NBA, and that's no longer comfortable for him.

The Team may terminate this Contract upon written notice to the Player if the Player shall at any time, fail, refuse, or neglect to conform his personal conduct to standards of good citizenship, good moral character (defined here to mean not engaging in acts of moral turpitude, whether or not such acts would constitute a crime), and good sportsmanship, to keep himself in first class physical condition, or to obey the Teamï training rules.

Its been pretty obvious for 6+ months he has had mental issues. Like it or not there is no way sixers can withhold his money.

If he is truly struggling tho I hope he gets the help he needs. Mental Health is no joke. Trust me. BUT adding the back stuff on top of it hurts that even more because it all just reads as yet another in a long line of pls trade me tactics

He prob does have mental illness considering his collapse last year, and he does have a history of back tightness, so they have to ride this out. The problem is, those excuses will only be valid for so long, and won’t necessarily force a trade.

I was on record as saying I would have traded him in July to the highest bidder because I don’t see how a reluctant Ben really raises his trade value. Morey has all the leverage, but it may require him to dare Ben to sit out the entire season, so Ben can exhaust his options. I’m not sure this type of battle is worth the risk/reward of a better trade return. However, the reported offers were pretty bad, so Morey really has little to lose if the offers get worse.

I don’t think they would want to terminate. They could’ve at least gotten some picks.

I'm beginning to think that Elton Brand wasn't as bad as I thought and he was just not allowed to trade Ben at his peak value.

Based Brand.

Am I understanding Woj that today the Sixers and Rich Paul agreed to Simmons coming in today and workout with Cassell. And then he got there and couldn't do it.

That comment must’ve ripped through the Simmons camp like a knife lol.

I just don’t like that he keeps marching Doc or Embiid out to address this. Let them do their jobs, and Darryl should take these questions. Doc is horrible at it anyway.

He clearly had to sell ownership on going this route. They know what deals were out there and will be comparing to what he ultimately gets. A bold move by Morey, but can’t be good for his job security to go this route and get a worse deal.

Morey said he's not trading him unless he gets a star. Then he's never getting traded, because they will never get a star.

All this is, is a butt hurt guy who knows he F'd up not getting Harden, and is stubbornly refusing to accept less, because it would be damaging to his ego knowing he did miss out on Harden to accept less.

Good luck, dude! He's still going to be a Sixer in October 2022 then, because no one's going to want the guy and no one's going to trade a star for him. Only then he'll just be another year older, another year where he either didn't shoot or didn't even play, and even less valuable.

Josh Harris needs to step up and get both of these clowns out of here. Bring in a GM who isn't a has-been who will trade Ben Simmons and wash their hands of this disastrous Morey experiment. Dude's biggest acquisition was Seth ****ing Curry, give me a break. He tweets at stars more than he gets them. Maybe if you stepped up and got one when you had the chance, you wouldn't be in this mess.

"Mentally not ready to play" without an actual mental illness is for someone who's not expecting to get paid. I can say with a great amount of confidence that Ben Simmons still wants/expects to be paid.

I'm somewhat ok with Doc. He says some dumb things but not sure how much it matters at this point. Really sucks that Embiid has to deal with it.

I think the issue will be that they are required to face the media every game. Not sure if they can limit questions or just tell them that Morey will answer the questions or something.
