Your playmaking will be nonexistent. That's the biggest problem. We only need to look at how Embiid got slaughtered in the bubble without Ben to see how this is going to play out. Maxey is a good scorer but not a great floor general or playmaker, and he's wayyyy too reliant on his floater right now. Teams are going to figure that out real quick.

Embiid from 2 years ago isn't the same MVP-type level Embiid of today.

Nevertheless, you're correct that Maxey isn't a floor general or playmaker - yet, at only 20 years of age as a starting point guard. But he does other things that Ben doesn't. Ben is a playmaker, Maxey is a shot-maker.

For those of us who follow the team daily, we know that as a rookie Maxey was extremely reliant on his floater to begin the season last year. Halfway through, Doc asked him to do more. So Maxey started utilizing other aspects of his game on offense. I think his shot is much more improved this year as only a second year player.

At the trade deadline Sixers will grab a steady point guard, I'm sure. The team knows its needs.
Truth is on the side of the oppressed.

Morey putting on a master class in how to sabotage a franchise entirely through awful PR and interpersonal skills. Why on earth would you air that out in public?

Forget Simmons and his mental issues. I can't rule out Morey having legitimate bi-polar disorder at this point.

Morey has the support of the Owners/City/players. Hes willing to win a war of attrition.

Simmons is a real piece of **** using mental health to try and collect his checks, it's a slap in the face to everyone that actually has to deal with issues.

I was going to ask, even if this hurts the Sixers a bit by not dealing Ben earlier for better value, do people think Morey is doing good for the league by not giving in. You can't have guys who just sign extensions demand out and then force teams to cater to them. The entire extension process off of rookie deals is designed to assist teams in keeping stars that they draft. Even if Morey could have gotten better value by trading Simmons earlier, I think this is good for the league. Just sit Ben for awhile to discourage this behavior from other players. Good organizations can't let players bully them.

This whole thing between Morey and Simmons is the NBA equivalent of South Parks debate between a Giant Douche and a Turd Sandwich. Morey being the douche and Ben being the turd... naturally...

He should have just left it ambiguous by saying it could go on for a long time. Nobody's buying this clown's BS that the ownership or Embiid will tolerate this situation for 4 years. Morey will get the axe long before that.
Yeah, I was going to say that if this were to go on for longer than a single season, Morey will be gone.

Ben's trade value isn't getting better right now. It's getting worse.

That's a poor analogy because the Sixers aren't competing against Simmons, they're competing against 29 other teams.

Exactly... lets even say Morey wins this battle. Ben comes back to play, maybe gives ~70% effort for the team, the media circus dies down... are other teams just going to get some collective amnesia, totally forget this absolute s-show situation, and offer Morey the star player return he wants for Ben?

Even if he's playing solid for them, it's pretty hard to imagine a scenario where teams are going to want to pony up his asking price after this mess.

Eh, it's not just about winning right. Owners are doing this for the money (certainly some owners might prioritize winning more than others, but at the end of the day money matters to everyone). I don't think it is absurd for one team to sacrifice a bit for the sake of empowering the ownership and management over labor. So in that sense, the owners aren't always competing and are aligned on doing things that will give them the most leverage and make them the most money. Not allowing players to do what they want, when they want, plays into that.

Doubt it they are going to fine him again and again until the league steps in and going by Silvers comments it appears the league is backing Morey.

76ers looked bad last year with their response to Simmons, but at this point it's impossible to root for the guy at all. He's not a professional at all, and not prepared to operate in an adult's world.

Morey is playing with a big fire. Simmons is represented by Rich Paul. The most powerful agent in the league now. Not a guy you wanna get on the bad side with
“This kid reminds me of a 6-6 Chris Paul. He wants to win everything.”

The league can't do anything if he claims injury and/or mental health issues. The league wants this in the rear view mirror, not front and center nationally. It's over.

All that's left is for the Sixers to pay him and trade him for a somewhat acceptable return. Basically the equivalent of the Brogdon deal.

I definitely believe the league will back the team/ownership vs the player and his representatives. It would completely unravel the CBA if players can sign deals and then immediately demand trades and sit out until that is met. It would set a terrible precedent for the league. So I get that part of it, but the other fact of the matter is you still need to run a franchise properly and be dealing in good faith with other GM's. It's clear Morey is not and has no intention of doing so.

Haven't been active in this convo but for the record I love Morey's approach so much. And I agree that the whole thing could unite the players more than hurt them. We'll see

i wouldnt wanna be the team that fines a player claiming mental health issues. Even if that player is Ben Simmons
