If Dorian maxi and green have any value they need to be packaged and moved now. This roster is just bad and desperately lacking starters

This article pretty good explains that only bad shooting night is not what happened yesterday.

They got some points, but imo. we saw a lot of good things. Like the post up with Finney-Smith. They said he only did two post up last season. I think they should post him when he got a tiny defender on him. I just think the Hawks played excellent defence blocking everything that was supposed to be easy. Like the Powell cut to the basket on the first post up or when DFS cuts at the 4:10 mark and get destroyed. He also misses a lot of open 3 pointers that he usually makes.

I don't know about them, but bitching in European Mavs circles has philosophical reasons. We just cannot understand Americans in Nba approach, because we're all for winning now. In Europe you have to win every year, nobody will settle for less. Watching Mavs being the same "solid" club just isn't enough.
I know that you need time to build the roster, but I would expect that in 3 years you should come at least a little closer. Believing that a problem is in your star player, who just had 35 points triple double in playoffs and a coach, who doesn't use properly a corpse of Unicorn, will bring you exactly where we finished yesterday.
Yes, this game statistically means very little for the whole season. On the other hand it put to sleep all hopes for something more. Kidd will do adjustments, players will play better, but in the end not Kidd and not Luka can do miracles with roster like that.
Now if they start off 6-14 like last year when I was preaching patience I'll probably won't be as optimistic due to Kidd.
Next 3 are TOR, HOU, SA
These teams should help correcting the issues from last night to prep for better teams.

I agree, schedule is very Mavs friendly for few games, they should be better. Kidd can always turn to RC's playbook and let Luka lead a team. But it's very difficult to see Mavs improving considerably this year. At this point, I would be happy, if they can at least higher Kp's value and trade him for something.

Those 3 are bad teams, Mavs could go 3-1 for sure.
We could win 45-50 games easily with Luka but this don't resolve any problems.
You have to see the evolution of the team and this doesn't exist. Everybody knew that Maxi, DFS, Powell can't be starter of a contender team (maybe 1 on the court, nomore) but we are here. After 3years.
An other 50W season doesn't change nothing about the failures of the FO and Mister Mark Cuban.
I don't wanna see you guys burn Luka's jersey after his leaving in perfect Lebron style... Open your eyes.
We are in the same path of the first Lebron Cavs. Ouch.

Yeah, I'm surprised how quickly the Hawks came together.
They were a sorry team during Trae's rookie season but a few years of experience together for those young players have them as a solid playoff team in the East. They had one of the best records in the East last season after the all-star break.
Schlenk did great job. Some of the players he has got, would have been great in Mavs too.
Yes, they signed a lot of good players...switching Trae and Luka, Atlanta is a top3 NBA.
I wouldn’t go as far as top 3 in the entire NBA but definitely top 3 in the East.

For me, this isn't about trashing our players but giving credit to the Hawks FO. They did a great job of building that team and are set up nicely for both the present and the future.
Yea I agree, there’s nothing wrong with recognizing the Hawks for putting together a great team. Personally I hope they win the East and really like what they’ve done with their team.
As for the Mavs, it’s still early. This was 1 game. It honestly is going to take a few games for Kidd to settle in on his rotation. Obviously you would like this done before the season starts however it’s not uncommon. There have been several times where Carlisle would be 10 games into the season before he settled on a rotation.

Yes, it's only first game of the year, Kidd will do adjustments...but the way how offense was run yesterday it looked like Kidd doesn't understand, how to utilise players in the best way. It's too soon for any kind of conclusion, but difference between having the best offensive team in the league and what have we seen yesterday is the difference between genius and idiot.
Carlisle was the coach for over 13 years, and the Mavs had the best offensive rating in history 11 years into his tenure. I think a big part of that was Voulgaris who recommended lineup & substitution patterns specific to the opponent. Not just Voulgaris, but the way the entire department (video & advanced scouting etc.) worked together with Carlisle to optimize those substitution patterns. Not to mention Luka. RC did have about 3 or 4 seasons in there with an aging Dirk and no one else capable of doing much on the roster.
Edit: Unfortunately, Kidd doesn't have the benefit of getting the same data Carlisle had because Voulgaris is gone now.

Since when DFS posting up, a good thing? That is not his game! He doesn't have the skill and the passing to make it effective! Lol.
They all wanted KP to do great. Heck, baby him. And even throw Luka under the bus by telling the media that he should trust his teammates more. Lol. I'm all in to lower Luka's usage rate BUT only when you have the right personnel to do it!! Who is going to initiate the offense when Luka playing off ball? Hahaha!
Cuban is a clown. The media will never blame his as*. It will be all Luka's fault! Heck, the gambler Bob even said that Luka never flexes his muscles with the management because he's not that type of guy. But the media will continue to blame him instead of Cuban. Lol.

The Mavs have practically the same team as the last 2 years. They didnt get any stars that you need to adapt your style of play to. They got Bullock and Brown, roleplayers who are plug and play guys. This is just an excuse for the bad game they had yesterday. This style of basketball works when you have better players than the Mavs do. KP is not a #2, that has been clear for a while now but it seems only Mavs cant see that. They should offer him to Philly for Simmons. Throw in some picks if you can. Simmons would be way more valuable to this team than KP with his defense and playmaking.

A team with Hunter, Collins and Capella all three playing in their top defensive form also hurt the Mavs, take a look back at the Magic and Sixers games last year, they too had big, athletic guy on Luka and defensive big behind, they too had problems.
In the Magic game THJ and Burke went nuts, in the Sixers game Mavs also looked like G-league team and were demolished, but yeah, offense has a lot of issues, and Luka needs to dominate the ball until another scorer is added.

You can consider add Bullock and Brown a good off season when you are a contender and you have to insert a 3&D guy on rotation...not if you are a first round exit team with a bunch of role players.

Powell and Kleber are trash with their salaries.
DFS is similar with a lower salary.
Boban, Burke and WCS are lost money.
Give some credits to Bullock and Omoruyi and Browns. They can't do it worse.
There is no more future than playoffs with this roster.

We have never seen him post-up before, I assume because Rick Carlisle considered post-up shots the worst shot in basketball. When he posted in this game he got doubled. I'm no expert, but when a player is getting doubled he is doing something right. He also had a super nice pass to Powell. Powell just could not finish it. I think it is smart to take advantage of a matchup like that. Especially when it is Trae Young. You need to make him work and not just stand in the corner with Finney-Smith. The Hawks did a good job with their help defence and the Mavs was not able to take advantage of it.
This way of playing might not work in the begging, but players need to be able to do more than catch and shoot for this team to become a great playoff team.

I hope I'm wrong, but DFS is being put in a position unfair to him in a contract year, he's 3&D hustle guy who crashes the offensive boards, offense shouldn't go through him.

Agree...but made only 5points guarded by the worst defender in the league is inexcusable.
I like him, he is an hard worker and good teammates but he is too limited, can't be a starter.

It's been one game but many of us knew this roster isn't impressive. It takes time to change that. We need two or there offseasons before we can be serious contenders and that's if our front office makes wise decisions.oldshoolballer wrote:Mavs looked bad really bad. I think people are quickly going to see how good Rick Carlisle was.
This roster is improved on last year (Luka healthy to start, KP health, much better wing depth) but the coaching has taken a huge hit. Just some downright terrible rotations and playcalls in that game.
Ughh.

This isn't a Carlisle considered thing. Post ups simply are the least efficient play. 95% of the time a post up is a failure of an offense.
