Anybody with an IQ above room temperature understands it’s a bull excuse just to get paid the rest the league thinks of him is soft and weak. He’s completely ruined.

Yeah, so when any sensible question or unconfortable situation arises, he is in a bad place mentally, instead of answering like an adult. He doesn't want to say directly to his teammates why he wants a trade, because the reason is selfish, as simple as that.
In fact, I bet he and Rich Paul thought none of this (having to talk with Sixers teammates) would need to happen again, which is why this looks so awkward right now, he really thought he would get traded quickly before training camp so none of this would happen. Too bad for him it's not only in his hands, the team can do whatever they want with him, he is still a Sixer for 4 years until team says otherwise.

You can bet this will be a big issue in the next CBA

Given that this game is on National Tv, is the home opener, and the team has suggested they have Simmons’ back, I keep going to this scenario:

The fans do a derogatory Simmons chant that was heard at the Flyers game the other day. Embiid angrily reacts and scowls, shushing the fans.

It’s possible they have Embiid talk to the fans tonight before the game starts asking them to be respectful and give Simmons his space, no? Gotta think they’ve at least batted that idea around.

Absolutely. It’ll be the Ben Simmons clause.

Woj just now - tone and tenor have changed today. Simmons is asking for professional help. Sixers providing it to him. Sixers will try to get him to a place where he is ready to ply for them again. Also, Morey has not called Brooklyn once.

SAS: nobody in Philly is buying this but they have no choice because the mental health card has been played.

If you pull that card, there should be a mandatory institutionalization period. Especially with all the millions at stake.

You don't have a players union on your side.

some places of business do have things called a mental health day as well.

But stop comparing NBA players to the average joe anyway lol. Despite being "employees" because of their talent they are closer to general CEO status lol. Your CEO can take a day or two off if he wants in some cases.

I mean everywhere I have worked if someone said something like that they would give them a few days if not longer, doesn't happen everywhere unfortunately.

If Ben tries to make it a big thing they will make him jump through some hoops though I assume. Like I said he'll have to be assessed by independent doctors.

Even more basic than this: leave of absence exist.

I really can't believe anyone who has worked at least one day in his life can make a comment like that or try to be sympathetic to a situation like that if your job doesn't allow you to take time in cases like this.

It's just stupid in itself

Anyone who actually believes this isn’t a concoction by a high level PR firm is a ****ing rube.

I don't doubt Ben has anxiety about the entire situation for many reasons. Reconciling with teammates, gaining trust of the organization and of course the city and fans, etc. I also don't find it acceptable to potentially misuse mental health struggles as a means of not working and still collecting a paycheck. He came back because he was losing money.

Dude has multiple houses on the market. I guess we will see if any smidgen of hope for his return came out of the morning meeting, but I am still not optimistic.

I mean...i normally would agree.

Anyone can see this guy has issues. Maybe it is just extreme immaturity or narcism but there is an issue. Always has been. He clearly was in his own head in that Hawks series. He does have a lot of people he has really disapponted, starting with his home country. They literally spent millions to build their olympic team around him and he bailed. He let the entire city down, he let the fans down, he snubbed his teamates.

It was a big step to talk to everyone today and say he had an issue, imo.

Again, it doesn't matter, if is PR we're gonna eventually know. If it's real you need to acomodate for the guy.

The team can gain normalcy again by trying to be human and can unite again. Even if internally they suspect they guy is lying.
