Haven’t watched the first two games, who should I hate off this year’s roster so far?

For anyone thinking of going to a game but unsure about COVID protocols/masks etc. my experience at the opener was not super positive (setting aside the basketball).

The positives were that they checked vaccine cards to get in, and there were occasional reminders on the Jumbotron to wear masks.

That said, there was no enforcement. Many people made no effort to pretend to wear a mask, including several people in my row, behind and in front of me. They never put one on at any point. Also, while cards were looked at it was a cursory glance (never compared the card to my ID for example) so it seems like you could probably show them anything and get in.

Also, people are definitely still wasted at the games so that doesn’t help. I had to tell a guy to tone it down a row behind me who was cussing like a maniac and on his phone talking loudly about buying drugs while I’m sitting there with my 6 and 9 year old.

Overall pretty disappointing, and especially since my kids are too young to be vaccinated I wouldn’t bring them to another game until they are.

Thanks for the inside scoop. Disappointing, but not at all surprising.

I definitely believe that we need to work one or 2 of Kanter, Hernangomez, or Fernando into the rotation! Grant has some good qualities, according to my son. He cannot be our sole big for long stretches if we expect to win. I am reserving further roster comments for a few weeks to see how and if things gel.

One other fun fact from the home opener. They had a video asking players if they added any random skills during COVID and the highlight was Josh Richardson saying he “learned nunchucks”.

So going forward I propose his nickname is Nunchuks.

Assuming Dennis is figuring things out, he could very well slot into the starting PG role and put Marcus back at combo guard.

Dennis/Marcus/JB/JT/Horf or Rob could be our starting 5 for the foreseeable future.

I think it’s time we start Horford at the 5 & have Rob come off the bench.

I definitely like Schröder at the 1. But Smart needs to go back to his 6th-Man role.

I like that Brown is at the 2, and Tatum at the 3. They can switch up, if necessary.
I also like Horford at the 4, with the Double Big Lineup.

Only thing with that is, that we don't have enough Centers, if there are Injuries.
I think that Horford and R. Williams have to be staggered, throughout the game.

Unless, we go with Kanter and G. Williams as the 2nd Unit 5 and 4, respectively?

Proposed Rotation, 2021-22:
Starters: Schröder - Brown - Tatum - Horford - R. Williams
Rotation: Smart - (Pritchard - Langford - Nesmith) - G. Williams - Kanter
Reserves: Richardson - Parker - Hernangómez - Fernando

Not sure if this has been talked about in this thread or another but Ime is going to have his hands full with Smart and Schröder this year. They both have shown that they are not above flopping and running their mouths off to the opposing teams and the refs.

I think that we also need to get Smart to come off the bench, him stating that he wanted to play as the 1 is not enough to keep him as a PG when he has lack luster ball handling and play making abilities. Yes he can pass but so far he has been disappointing to watch.

Marcus off the bench is ideal, but I'm not a huge fan of both Al and Rob starting, and if they both don't start then Marcus should be at the 2.

I guess you could go with a Dennis/JB/JT/Grant/Horf lineup, but Grant is still not a starter and Smart is a much better defender.

Team needs a decent starting PF.

Adding either Kanter or Fernando to the mix would allow more rest for the other bigs, keeping them fresher. We know what Kanter can do. While he can be a liability defensively, he can also rebound and score. If the other team starts taking advantage of him, sit him down, but there is a reasonable chance that he will provide enough offense and rebounding to allow him to remain on the court for a few minutes at least. That's a few more minutes of rest for Al and Timelord. As for Fernando, we haven't really had a good look at him, but I'm pretty sure nobody is going to push him around at least. Juancho needs to see more playing time. He does have a track record that indicates he can be useful, but he can't show anything glued to the bench. Grant has shown that he deserves minutes, but we've seen that he can be taken advantage of when we go small ball, particularly when the other team has more than one big on the court. He's a good complementary player, though, and I think his defensive capabilities make him a good candidate to pair with Kanter.

Everyone has their stance. seems like many different suggestions. My two cents will remain the same.

SHOOTERS, SHOOTERS, SHOOTERS... with defense of course.

Tatum and Brown are both ball stoppers, and I don't like it. Stop fiddling and diddling with the damn ball. I don't want to see Tatum's Kobe Bryant imitations.

Those two guys need to watch Kawhi Leonard tapes. Get the ball, take your shot immediately. Or if the shot is not there, make a move to the basket. If that is cut off, get rid of the ball immediately. Bang bang bang. Be decisive.

And let me add that, when you give up the ball, make a cut without it and maybe you'll get it back.

You want a motion offense like the 80’s Celtics? That was fun to watch! I know this is a different era; but we seem to have success that is proportional to the amount of movement our players put out. I don’t like to see 3 or 4 guys in a semi circle waiting for the ball.
