Other than being white, there is really no comparison between those two. Extreamly lazy comparison. it's
Dozens of comparisons between the two on YouTube. I think they both have a great first step. Hayward was drafted 9th.

I've also heard Chad Ford compare them before.

Youtube... i don't expect much knowledge from those guys.

Anyway, there is really no similarities between them. Gordon was offensive weapon with phenomenal shooting touch ( as it was displayed as freshman, who decided to change arch in second year ... and failed lol) and nack for drawing fouls ( pretty much remarks of good scorer, that he proved to be)
Franz is defensive minded player with waaay better defensive instics but also worst ballhandler, much worst shooter and in general isn't really "scorer".

I think they're similar shooters. Hayward shot a little bit better from 3.

They're pretty much the same age, Hayward 5 months older in his sophomore season than Franz was in his. Hayward picked 9th and Franz 8th.

The biggest comparison, like I said, is the first step and getting by his man.

In terms of Haywood comparison, Gordon is really more of a scorer, were Franz is more a glue guy. Just seems like the lazy white guy comparison.

That's executives and scouts comparing the two. Plus Hayward didn't really become a scorer until his 4th season.

I compared him to Chuma before the draft.

agree on the lazy comparison between the two. Their games are very different. Hayward was good college scorer and the driving force behind their title run. Franz known more as a willing passer and defender.

i'll say, if Franz can keep his defense and turn into half of what Hayward has become on offense, i will love it. I just dont see it

The stats don't really back up what you're say, but they're both white.

I remember Chad Ford being apologetic for making the comparison, because they were both white. At the time, it was early in the draft process and the had him around 6th. Closer to the drafted they cooled on him.

His game reminds me more of Lamar Odom. He's an okay shooter who is a better playmaker and defender for a 6'9" guy.

i watched Hayward lead Butler to the finals against Duke and almost win. They played a slow tempo, sound system. Franz didnt lead his team into the finals, though he was likely one of their best defenders. But Hayward was the lynchpin of that Butler team.

Franz has to improve his shooting. The rest of his game is stiff and mechanical. He's smart and he hustles, so he can be a scrappy defender, but in order to be a consistent contributor at a high level, he needs to be able to be a 3pt threat.

It would be easier for him if he was on a team with a bunch of great shooters to spread the floor.

What i find hilarious is how everyone is bashing Franz offense tool and talking about all the things they think he cant do and how he was overdrafted with his lack of skill.....

YET, when he was drafted #6 overall, Jonathan Isaac didnt have HALF the offensive skills as franz (4 years in and he still doesnt) and yet people here were literally calling him the next durant with better defense. Hmm i wonder why? Oh yeah..FSU

Coming out of college, Franz has a better offensive game than JI, Bamba\carter and similar to Okeke
Franz will be fine and be a great glue guy for us for a while and great 3-4th option for us for a long time and literally the least of my worries about this team going forward

He was 4 for 5 from 3 point tonight.

How much better do you want him to get?

Now, where is the fun in that?

Although I waited until after the first game, I predicted Franz would lead the Magic in scoring.

At the end of the year when he is averaging 4 PPG, that will be fun also.

Getting better game by game, doesn't need the ball but he's making an impact so far. I like what I'm seeing on defense for the most part. He's not biting on pump fakes, which tells me he's more disciplined than the average rookie. Still needs more time in the oven but bit by bit his game is shaping up. Has to get stronger and HAS to sharpen up that handle, it's more loose than it should be.

The handle isn't *that* bad but it will be important for unlocking the next part of his game.

He moves REALLY well out there though, very fluid for his size.
