If someone would’ve told me the “offensive project” would put up 42 points in a B2B within his first 3 games I’d saying you’re lying

Refs screwed him in this game plain and simple. First 2 fouls had an effect on the entire team for the entire game.

Wait til he gets the respect from the refs, not getting **** on is a work in progress. If and when that eventually happens watch out.

I had to replay that dunk a couple times TBH

That was way too effortless from where he took off... and it looked like be wasn't even trying

Crazy thing is he's doing this all without a 3 point shot. He's basically doing this all this on putbacks, transition and postups and If this kid adds a 3 it's a wrap on the league.

Giannis never had the post up skills of Barnes at the same age. Barnes would abuse a 20 yr old sophomore Giannis in the post, He just looks so strong out there against grown men.

You guys always talk about the offense hah. Even then, his ability to pick up full court on primary ball handlers (his defensive role) lets him murder the OREBs. Smaller teams are going to get punished on switches to Precious in the PnR Roller, with Barnes crashing too.

This kid on defense is already very good with instincts. Tonight he was guarding Luka, on switches he sunk middle, and stayed in the lane for the full 2.9 seconds, and was always the first help defender. The GTJs/FVVs played so up on him to steer Luka back into Scottie, and it was so effective.

Or just watch this possession from last night.

Denies penetration, goes out to the corner but sees Precious covering, retreats back for a strong side contest.

Im blown away by this guy.

Edit: Vs Brown/Tatum/Kuzma/Dinwiddie/Beal they combined for...

16 PTs on 6/18 shooting (2/8 from 3), 4 ASTs, 2 TOVs, and only 2 FTs. Over 77 possessions.

Generational talent, not many guys his size can do what he does. Giannis/Durant/Simmons/James/Doncic and a few others, but Barnes looks so poised and control of everything he does, there isn't telling what his ceiling will be. What scouts and others projected him to be 4 years from now, he's that right now. Could be a testament to his work ethic and character. Watching him handle the ball, find dimes like Jason Kidd and just grab rebounds like Shawn Marion is enough for me to say this dude will give every team problems. He never looks "rattled" looks ready to move onto the next play. What's amazing about him is his food speed and how far his strides are which I under the Giannis comparisons. what guy's are use to defending, Barnes amplifies that because he covers so much ground on the floor, so in one dribble Barnes is already in position to score.

Barnes is hitting long range shots comfortably....it's a runaway for ROY because no one will come close to Barnes. I'm a big Duarte fan and hes a great shooter/scorer, but Barnes does it all and clearly is impactful not only on both ends but he brings a unique energy being one of the most complex basketball talents we've seen in a while. Barnes seems like the easiest player to build around in this draft because he addresses so many needs. Now he's shooting? Health is the only thing that can get in Barnes way.

It's funny that the two guys who were supposedly the least NBA-ready (Barnes and Mobley) have been the two best rookies so far.

And by a significant margin too. They’ve been on a tier of their own

I think that's a mischaracterization of what Scottie was coming out of college. He was always going to be a good defender, he could dribble, pass and score in transition, I don't think anyone questioned that. He was never sold as "least NBA ready", that was players like Kuminga, Keon Johnson, and Ziaire Williams.

Personally, I always saw Scottie as a player with actually a pretty high floor, I just questioned what his ceiling would be without shooting and how he would fit with Pascal and a traditional big man center who also doesn't shoot 3s.

He was sold as a high IQ help defender and considering his size and speed, he fits better as a 4/5. We should be featuring him as a small ball 5 in clutch minutes just to get him used to it. He fits the role better than Achiuwa anyway. He's got a mix of Gasol and Lowry in him.

with pascal coming back, inevitable rookie wall, and increased attention,
his numbers will likely drop off but he's definitely very promising

what's amazing, is Nurse, who doesn't play rookies regularly....trust him a lot
