Pretty remarkable that Melo went for 18-5-5 considering I thought he played relatively poorly overall (on only 26 minutes) and was a couple unlucky rim outs away from a 24 point night.

And I've admittedly been a Miles skeptic from the start. Mostly stemming from my belief that he had a role player mindset and didn't have it in him to impose his will and athleticism on defenders and get buckets. But I'll be damned. He's straight up bullying everybody on both ends of the floor.

I LOVED this 2nd quarter sequence by Miles:

-few possessions of back-and-forth pushy pushy with Claxton
-no call on Claxton
-Miles comes down and truck sticks Claxton, then backtalks the ref
*couple of possessions later*
-cookies Harden and then goes down for a 360 fast break dunk

That's some Alpha dog **** and set the tone for the rest of the game

Looking forward to seeing how Miles does guarding Harden or Durant.

We’re going to need a massive contribution from our bench to stand a chance IMO.

I think this is a very winnable game for charlotte. The nets arent interested in a #1 seed, but staying healthy. We arent going to go all out. we were awful the first 2 games. low energy and early deficits. it is extremely like the same happens tonight.

harden/KD could always take over, but Nash is trying to keep them to under 30 minutes a game if he can. for load management. an early weekend game the nets are certain to mail in and play with low effort. vs a young team, all they need to do i splay hard

I think hornets win something like 115-110

Nets have only played 2 games, and already it’s load management time?

Lol.

AFL teams often do the same, start off slow to time their peak for the end of the year. It’s a marathon not a sprint, especially with a bunch of old pricks.

Charlotte are probably the worst opponent for Brooklyn at the moment as they run their asses off

How'd that work out for Richmond this season?

The Demons didn't start slow and were 1st or 2nd all year then went on to win the Grand Final.

And Footscray was a top 3 team all season as well until the last month when they dropped to 5th, and ended up playing in the Granny.

Statistically the top 8 is determined by round 6-8 of a 22 week season and teams vary a few positions here and there on the ladder - so it's not like teams limp through the season then ramp it up over the last month or so as the finals are coming.

I didn’t say it always works, I’m just saying it’s not unheard of especially with an older team.

Well that was a fun game. This team is so fun to watch, and I love how much we like to run. Ish Smith could not have been a better fit for how we want to play.

The perfect back up for Ball. Last year we lost a lot of games by losing the intensity after benching Ball. This year we don’t/won’t have that problem. Smith loves to run and is the perfect fit for this team.

Then when you add Oubre, who is pretty good on defense and also likes to run, it’s a thing of beauty.

And Plumlee, while not the best center and definitely not a good free throw shooter, sure does know how to play like a guard and has very good eyes for passing.

This team is very good and we haven’t even sent Washington packing yet.

Better believe I had a hell of a time today watching Ish and Cody own the Nets for the win, seeing Miles and Melo live for the first time (while wearing a purple Bridges jersey), and telling one of the ushers “I told you so” on the way out.

Whole lot more I could say, but…

Were kidding ourselves if we think Ish Smith is a better player than Graham, but for uptempo system and nonstop attacking the paint? Ish is amazing. Good job Mitch.

pretty much as i expected. early weekend start home team sleepwalks. Nash terrible coaching never helps. our only chance to win this one was KD dropping 45+. which is always a possibility. but he fell short. good luck. I wouldnt over react to this win though. The Nets are not going to be a great regular season team early. we likely start 1-5 or 1-6.

BIG WIN
Showed we can hang with anyone in the East tonight.
If we can stay healthy this team could break the curse of no playoff series victories
Love these guys, so much hustle and heart

Confidence. I have not seen a Hornets team play with this level of swagger since LJ daze.

Gotta love it when we do this: https://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/264526/Kevin-Durant-Of-Course-We-Have-Enough-Without-Kyrie-Irving

Man it was just a blessing. I was loving life towards the end as we mopped the floor with them...and the coolest part might've been the rumblings of the fans around me saying that this Hornets team is simply going to be different than it's ever been...

Return to Charlotte Hornets
