Kennard is too important to the clips this season. I also think the price of Bertrans might be too high for what we have to offer.

Right, so I'm going to propose the framework of a trade I'm sure a lot of you will hate. But I think it has merit so...deal.

Minnesota trades; Malik Beasley, Naz Reid, Jake Layman, '27 2nd, '28 2nd
Minnesota gets; Steven Adams, Brandon Clarke, better of Utah/LAL '22 1sts

Memphis trades; Steven Adams, Brandon Clarke, better of Utah/LAL '22 1sts
Memphis gets; Malik Beasley, Naz Reid

OKC trades; future heavily protected 2nd
OKC gets; Jake Layman, both Minnesota 2nds

Reason - We need rebounding and this is one of the few guys I think might be available. Adams is overpaid, sure, but he'll give us the bulk and toughness we're currently lacking, not to mention being a positive veteran influence. Clarke is a bonus after a disappointing season last year and the pick is to help balance value (I still think it's off, but there's a lot in the air with this deal).

For what we're sending out...frankly, I think Beasley is unnecessary at this point. He can't create for himself, making him useless as an offensive focal point for the bench mob. And we can't afford him, DLo and Towns on the court together defensively for long periods because they're just not good enough, so it creates a fit issue. Moving him would open up more time for DLo at SG alongside either Bev or JMac, both of whom I prefer right now over Beasley for different reasons.

Losing Naz would suck but he'd be squeezed out of minutes after this anyway and doesn't provide the rebounding we need to begin with, not to mention he's got a contract extension coming up which might get pricey. Getting Clarke as a "prospect" I feel sort of makes up for losing Reid. Layman and the 2nds is the cost to duck the lux with OKC.

For Memphis, they get younger (which was a stated goal of theirs, to take steps back to ensure they're competing when Ja/JJJ hit their primes) without costing too much. OKC picks up some far future 2nds for a bit of money this season.

I'll be honest, I'm not sure about this deal (hence the term "framework"). I feel like the value is off but I'm not 100% sure where or how to fix it. But I think the core of it has legs, so...thoughts?

I feel like Bertans is still a real bad contract.

I agree Beasley needs to go, he won’t get the playing time
here to make his contract look good. Which teams need him though and has something the wolves can use? Celtics fans want a replacement for Fournier, but they don't really have anything the wolves need and could get for Beasley maybe Nesmith (who has kind of looked horrendous this season but showed flashes last season). The lakers could use Beasley but they have nothing I would want.

Don’t underestimate the importance of depth. One twisted ankle or injured hand to Ant and Beasley is our starting SG. Likewise an injury to Dlo could promote Beasley and Beverly to make up for the lost shooting. Beasley is a major slump which depresses his value. Also his legal drama is still fresh in people’s minds and there is a rumor/belief floating around that he is out of shape (which explains the slump.) All of this means his value is at an all time low. Selling low when you bought high (Roco) is a bad idea. Better to wait till the mid season to move him (if at all,) in the meantime, rotate him in sooner and give him more time with KAT or Dlo and Ant to let them create for him.

The only players we should consider moving at this point are Layman, JMAC (not MCD) Nowell, and Prince.

I think 16mil a year is fair for a guy with his skillset considering Shamet got 4 years 43 mil and Huerter got 4 years 65mil recently. I would think he can play 30 minutes as a starter on this team and allows Okogie to focus on what he does best. Some people throw out names of many PF and C as guys who can shoot (McDaniels on the Wolves for example), but I think there are very few bigs that actually can and Bertans is one of them. In fact, he might be the best shooting big in the NBA after KD and Tatum. He'd be the best free throw shooter on this team by a large margin. DLO/Edwards/KAT can really get guys open, but Wolves don't have anyone to take advantage on a nightly basis.

In regards to Beasley, the dude is the guy that has the talent to be that shooter, but I worry about his mental state as most do. He looked so promising after Wolves acquired him, but his offseason activities and lifestyle seems to be very distracting for him. I wouldn't be surprised if he becomes a key bench contributor with a title contender, and wouldn't be surprised if off the court issues begin to mar his career.

It’s interesting Xavier Tillman is out of the Griz rotation. I really like him as a 4/5 last year that played tough, smart, and even shot it a little. He’s the reason Brandon Clarke was squeezed out, but it looks like Clarke took back those minutes this year.

The Griz have drafted really well for where they’ve picked. Desmond Bane is really really good.

Derrick Favors played 10 mins the other night for OKC and can probably be had for Prince+ a 2nd.
I have a feeling getting bullied in the paint is going to be a recurring problem for us this year.

I see several Hornet's fans are debating trading PJ Washington. They want a center, so we really don't have a player to satisfy that need for them. I wonder if there is something on our team we would be willing to trade that they would want to take a flyer on him.

He’s been bad that’s why. I think a swap with Reid should be enough.

I don't necessarily think we need to land a starter at the 4/5 (though that would be ideal) but just someone to add some beef and hit the boards when we are getting crushed.

Not interested in Bertans, but wouldn’t mind Harrel, Hachimura, or Kuzma.

We need a big bruiser who can defend and rebound.

Does Derrick Favors have anything left in the tank? I’m sure OKC would give him up cheap - they got a 1st for absorbing his contract last year.

If Minnesota had useless expirings, Minnesota could get him for free since he has two years left, but unfortunately I don’t think he has enough left in the tank to justify trading our existing players for him. Would be an awesome rotational piece, though.

At this point I would expect similar deal to get RFA PF/C via trade (see Beasley, Juancho, Vando trade), some candidates:

* - Boucher
* - Eric Pascal
* - PJ Washington
* - Portis
* - Thomas Bryant
* - WCS
* - Bitadze
