Need to clean up the turnovers and defense. Turnovers were especially an issue today. Hornets definitely had a couple guys stepping up big time out of nowhere in the 4th today (Ish Smith and Caleb Martin) so that's just unusual but the turnovers killed us throughout the game. Harden is especially at fault at that.ArksNetsSince99 wrote:DarkXaero wrote:Too many things wrong right now. Fans will always look for the one scapegoat but its a collective failure atm. The rest, especially James Harden, need to step up badly.
You’re right about collective failure , something isn’t right , only 4 players that stand out and hustle

The amount of funds in Joe Harris bank account should be reduced every night he has less than 8-10 points.
What the hell is the team paying him for? What does he truly offer at this point?
And, why is Nash not held accountable for giving him minutes that he doesn’t deserve?

I think Harris' confidence is gone to be honest and it all goes back to when we lost to the Bucks. KD is balling lights out right now but Harden seems to have his work cut out figuring out what to do as facilitator considering there's new faces on the team and they are not shooting and hitting the three like they did last year. I don't see Johnson, Carter, Bembry here come April. I expect Marks to make some trades to get us the necessary shooting.

Missed this game. Sounds like we have a lot of work to do. Someone said we can’t blame Kyrie cause he isn’t there. I mean seriously? You have a team that has been practicing and game planning for the last two seasons and your starting star shooting guard star decides to become unavailable and support an anti-vax movement under the guise of anti mandate. So now we have a team that has to learn on the fly with new players in the lineup and plug a gaping hole while dealing with the drama created. I don’t see how this doesn’t take at least 20 games to iron out.

He's your classic one trick pony. And those guys suck in the playoffs, guys like JJ Reddick come to mind as well. They can get buckets in the reg season but once that playoff defense turns up they're invisible.

The Hornets played a great 4th quarter. They are a capable NBA team and their players hit their shots and we bricked ours. It happens, I only caught the 4th so that’s all I got.

This is nonsense. if you cant win with two top 5 players and a ton of excellent role guys, at home, to charlotte, by less then 10 you need to look in the mirror, not at kyrie.

The comparison to Reddick is spot on. I’m just over it. It’s inexcusable and one of the alpha dogs need to call him out regarding his poor play ASAP!
Sadly, Nash and them gunna keep rolling him out there to the point he’s just a worthless body taking up floor space.
He’s a liability and needs to slapped around and woken up if the team insist keeping him around.

Ugly loss, but expected. early weekend games are always trash... especially for the home teams. Not surprisingly we fell behind early. Annoying because we had this game in the bag, but mailed it in way early.
A team with Kevin durant just scored 37 second half points. you know its a weird energy thing when that happens.
my thoughts...
1) coaching was annoying. im not gonna harp on rotations because there is no real right or wrong there this early. But we mad no second half adjustments. We didnt use timeouts to try and stop runs/momentum, we didnt challenge a key late obvious charge call on harden, and we let 2 bench scrubs go off.... I mean Martin/Smith and 2 other bench guys ran it up to a 14 point lead from down 6. It isnt hard to stop guys like that. they arent beting a double team and there arent elite floor spacers around them either. do something... anything to try and break the momentum and force someone else to shoot.
2) Joe Harris hate is displaced. he is there to hit open threes and space the floor. thats what he is doing. The coaching needs to do more then just have him stand on the wing or be part of a dibble hand-off. He is a deadly shooter, run him off screens to moce the defense or make them switch off ball. Harris now v. harris under kennys staff was night and day. we saw double screens, we saw back door cuts (how many times did dlo hit harris for easy layups?) we saw pin downs. Joe is never gonna be a great defender and teams arent going to leave him when we go big or have brown on the floor. he is playing hard. had a few floor burns today. he needs to cut the turnovers but he isnt out there throwing up tons of bricks.
3) Harden clearly is way out of shape. He also seems rusty. tons of turnovers or passes that dont get cleanly to the roll man. In time he should be fine. the hammy probably delayed his ability to get into game shape/get reps. 17 turnovers for the team, 8 by Harden. tough to overcome that.
4) I like what carter is giving us. Tons of deflections and steals. digs in. he was a huge get for Marks. 3 steals, 1 block and several deflections. Our biggest run came with Carter/Milsap/Claxton on the floor together. they really got after it.
5) Our finishing at the rim was pathetic given we played a team with no size/shotblocking. Claxton/Brown/Aldridge finshed next to nothing. Those guys need to man up in there.
Back to back tomorrow at a bad time. 1-3 start with a tough game vs. miami is a bad way to start.

1.Steve Nash's obsession with making Carter a thing needs to end ASAP. He was a bench player, who should only play if there is lot's of injuries or rest.
Yes he's a decent on ball defender but he's a midget out there, so he can be easily mis-matched into being a liability. He's zero on offense. What does he truly bring??
2. Bembry looked really spry and active in the preseason. Why is he not getting mins?? He looked much better than James Johnson who looks washed and proved nothing on either end. What is Nash seeing that we or stats aren't???
3. Need to get Joe Harris more involved. We're not running any plays for him. Our offense as a whole looks noticeably bad and the amount of Harris open 3's/shots is a good barometer of our offense. Let's just say so far it's not been good in any game.
4. I said it after Game 1 that Harden doesn't look in shape and has very little explosiveness. Hopefully this is just lingering after effects from the hamstring and he gets it going by Game 15 or so but if this is Harden for the rest of the season it's a major concern w/o Kyrie. Just something again, to keep an eye on.

I thought the defense was outstanding the first 38-40 minutes. they got almost nothing that wasnt generated off turnovers (29 points off turnovers). We challenged shots, got steals/blocks/deflections/rebounded ok. Our offense was disgusstingly bad outside of KD.
we turned it over 17 times. we scored just 37 in the second half. there was like no sets at all. just guys standing and watching, which is fine when its KD and space. but that wasnt the case alot of the game or when hornets made their run. This was maybe the worst offensive game in the big 3 era when at least 2 guys played.

He offers elite high volume three point shooting and floor spacing. among 3 point shooters in his salary range, he is by far the best. The coaching staff doesnt help by keeping him basically stationary. most teams have their sniper coming off screens to force off ball switches and make the D move.
he is shooting 40% from three on 8 attempts a night. he is doing what he is paid to do. With the talent we have, he should be getting more open looks more consistently

The only thing worse then Nash's awful coaching is him throwing players under the bus and taking 0 accountability in the post game. I cant effing stand that guy.
what changed in the second half?
nash: They went small, it became a 1 on 1 game. we couldnt score as good as them.
maybe you make an adjustment? and maybe in a "1 on 1 game" where you have KD you score more then 37 second half points and get abused by caleb marting

Harden: I'm hesitant... im still getting my confidence (in my hamstring) back
KD: We had nice control of the game, they played a better second half.
KD doesnt seem phased. there is no urgency or concern. i think they know they are better then everyone, it just needs to come together.

Yes it is. He’s having very bad start. Looking washed up too. I'm starting to question his engagement/commitment right now. This is not Harden from last year, not even close.

I mean, he is coming off a severe hamstring issue. he wasnt able to work out until he finished his rehab. he is nowhere near washed up and likely will play at MVP level once he works back into shape. you can see his quickness is still there and is getting past guys with his first step.
he said post game he is admittedly hesitant now, needs to continue to gain confidence in his hamstring. give the dude time.
and no, his role isnt to score, he is more of a balance player here. he is now more of a 24/12 type guy not someone scoring 35+ a game.
