Will not be watching many games this year as I will be taking care of my very ill mother. Multiple issues. Now that Tatum finally showed up, and it's nearly midnight, thought I'd post a little summary I use to see quick and dirty who's on, off, mediocre or crap.

An alternative view:

Pts. + Rebounds + (0.5 x Assists) + Steals + (0.5 x Blocks) - Missed FGs - (0.5 x Missed Free Throws) - Turnovers - (0.5 x Fouls)

+27 Jayson Tatum (37 minutes) I expect this every night from him
+21 Al Horford (30 minutes)

+18.5 Grant Williams (31 minutes) wow, this may be a trend. He may have figured out how to contribute meaningfully

+13 Dennis Schroder (33 minutes)
+11.5 Marcus Smart (36 minutes)

+7 Rob Williams III (28 minutes)
+6 Payton Pritchard (16 minutes)

+3 Josh Richardson (19 minutes)

-3 Aaron Nesmith (12 minutes) a Trend that I'm not liking

It's unrealistic to expect anyone to do that every night, but Tat does it a large majority of the time because he's great!

Nesmith is young, gotta give him time, but he has been disappointing 3 games in. Took him a minute to get going last season too, he'll figure it out.

COVID is trash, WB Al!!!!

A W is a W.

JT sparked up.
Liked Al.

Terrible opponent with great rook.
Bigger test VS Hornets tomorrow.

Horford was great. So many veteran moves on both sides of the floor...

I know Grant won`t keep shooting 70% from three but if he can shoot 40 % for the season that would be something...

Feels good to win one but we will have to play better next game if we want to get to 2-2...

VC to our best player.

Brown gets the VC even for a DNP? I’m impressed.

Richardson looks less impressive but serviceable.

I am curious how glued to the bench Kanter is? Will he get more minutes against teams with more size? You would think so. I guess a part of it is Grant looking so good that he is taking Kanter's minutes. Not a bad thing. I just hope we continue to use lineups of Grant + a center not a lineup where Grant is the center.

Kanter can't be pleased. Every time he comes here, he gets less minutes. Every time he plays for another team, he gets many more minutes.

Kanter loves it here. Isn't just about PT. It is about situation, life, a bunch more. He could have siugned many places for the minimum. He chose here for a reason.

The way I see it, they need some easier games with a semi-consistent starting core to gel as a team. Get the basics down. They have a new coach and many new players. We won't really know what this team is capable of until 20 games into the season.

Kanter needs more minutes. The team needs his size and rebounding!

i know. that's why my post was about the knicks game - not the raptors game. we barely lost to the knicks in double OT. if Al played vs knicks, we would have beat the knicks.
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything :)

He's our most ideal Randle defender; Timelord did an admirable job but Grant took a beating in that game

Voted for Grant.

Tatum was good, but he's supposed to be good. Grant showed up and tonight is why he has been earning minutes.

I'm not fooled by this win though....Scal can sing whatever praises he wants about Houston, but that team sucks.

Ime still has work to do.

That said, I get the frustration with the Smart and Schroder back court, but that is a defensive nightmare for other teams. Its not a bad idea as long we actually defend well and get points from turnovers and getting to the basket (not chucking low percentage 3s). Also, that lineup isn't permanent as Brown will be back.

Lets win tonight and maybe I can step off the ledge and put the pitchfork down.

The cigar goes to Tatum. Horford and Grant falling just short. Both played very well. The second and third quarters were particularly enjoyable. Keeping our turnovers down, and doing a better job on the boards makes a difference. Our 3-point shooting was 32% (15-47!), while Houston shot 44% (14-32), which allowed Houston to keep the game somewhat close. Generally, we played OK with some really nice stretches. I worry that we are overly reliant on the 3-pointer, as it can be a real problem when the shots are not dropping. Let's see what we do against Charlotte.

Anyone else concerned about Schroeder's loose handles late in the game? He turned the ball over 3 or 4 times and that kind of spurred the Rocket's comeback. Also shot a little early in the clock a couple of times and that also didn't help. Not concerned though, overall I believe he's a better shooter than what we've seen so far. Speaking of shooting, I'm not concerned about Nesmith either. I saw enough in preseason and late last year to believe what we've seen so far is a little aberrational. Seems like he's a bit anxious when he shoots, a lot of his shots are back rimming.

Gave it to Tatum he played great all around easily could’ve gone to al he’s been fantastic or grant who somehow has also been fantastic other than that like 10 min horrid defensive stretch.

Saw some good things the defense had some really good stretches. Lineups kind of weird again tho still don’t feel like ime has found his groove in that regard. Dennis was good as a drive and pass and ball mover but still has some wild lapses on defense far too often.

Glad we won wanna see more good tho. And jalen green looks pretty exciting on the rockets front.

It feels like a "win the battle", "but lose the war" approach. There is NO WAY you can win Big in this league with "non Shooters"

It will be only a matter of time when teams start to really trap Tatum and Brown. And it will lead to a ton of missed open looks, then JT and JB trying to do to much.

Waiting for Nesmith to hits shots is one thing. But coach Ime also hardly played PP who is shooting well.

Me feeling concerned about this team going forward is my understatement of the week so far.

good assessment
we have to add shooting but also switchable defenders that can rebound ! this is why our best revounder cannot even get onto the floor. Brad knows this, I'm confident moves are imminent, this roster is is still quite fluid imo

unless bruno is some huge revelation (he won't be ha) or rob magically becomes reliably healthy and regains ALL of his explosiveness (not confident at all here either) moves for shooters and switchable revounders are coming...
