Re: ATL - 2021-22 Regular Season Begins
Is the plan for LBJ to play 39mpg in the regular season? Seems weird. Bud's minute distribution may cost us a few games but I love Giannis only playing around 30 during the season.

OKC have got some dudes. They can basically become a good team whenever they want to.

Glad fans/media have started to pick up on AD's "guess we're falling down again" routine. It's obnoxious and dangerous.

When he first hit the league, he seemed like he might be a Horford clone. But you kept waiting for him to do something last night and he just doesn't look like a $100mm guy, nor a guy that would be a top 3 player on a contender.

Griz have a chance of being a contender within the next 2-3 years. If they become that, it will be because of JJJ breaking out. He only turned 22 last month, and I could see him making big strides as the season goes on like Ayton did last year during his age 22 season. He's got the tools and desire to go with his youth. It's a good gamble me believes.

Right now I see them as an Iverson Sixers club, worse maybe since they don't have a clear #2 like Dikembe was.
They've got a really tough task ahead of them finding a second and third star. They won't be a destination team for a star in free agency or forced trade.

Wondering if Harden looking like garbage is a repeat of last year with him trying to be traded back to Morey and the Sixers for Simmons. I prefer the hypothesis that it's the rule change making him just another all-star

You don't bail on athletic bigs with the kind of shooting touch that JJJ has. The turning point for Memphis is gonna be deciding when to package a bunch of their rookie contract and bargain deal guys (Bane, Brooks, Melton, Williams, Clarke, Tillman) plus picks for an All-Star level difference maker.

I LOVED JJJ as a prospect and while I still think he can be good I'm definitely less in love with him now. He's just not a good rebounder, wasn't in college and probably never will be. He's also really not the defender I thought he would be either. I think individual defensive metrics are flawed but he hasn't graded well in those since entering the league.BucksFanSD wrote:paulpressey25 wrote:Prez wrote:That 105 mil extension for Jaren would scare me if I'm a Grizz fan.

Maybe he has a leap in him and his tool set is fun but I'm just not sure he'll ever be more than a good like 4th best guy on your team type.

Yeah, I actually think finding the second option is harder than finding the first. Mostly because a number 1 option can have any skill set, but the number 2 has to have a skill set that fits the first unless they are just an absolute mega talent like lebron.
That may be overblown on my part, but it’s damn hard to start building that team once the clock starts ticking.
I actually think Atlanta is in a really difficult situation much like Memphis. They have Trae, a ton of depth in part due to them using their cap space to acquire talented vets, but I’m not sold they have a second or third guy yet. Collins impressed me, but he didn’t have allstar level impact in the playoffs. Maybe he’ll get there, but that’s what makes it so hard - especially since that depth will go away in time.
Who do you pay once the contracts start coming to a close, and when do you go all-in for outside talent? I think Most gm’s sit too long and are too attached to their guys.

Re: ATL - 2021-22 Regular Season Begins
Not mentioned (that I've seen?) in regards to JJJ is that he's had problems staying on the court. The best ability is availability. Minor injuries until the meniscus tear, but it's all added up nonetheless.
If he pans out, at this point he looks more like a Rashard Lewis kind of player. That's a 2x all-star, and I agree you don't bail on that this early in his career, but agreed that it's not your #2. Mr. Swanson's got the right idea of waiting out the right opportunity to trade for that guy.

I'm so excited to see Ja and the Grizz in DC in a couple weeks. Might even be a good game if the Wizards keep it up.

Re: ATL - 2021-22 Regular Season Begins
Did a little looking at SAC last night and they have a ton of G depth and Mitchell looks like a keeper (obviously still super early). But with so many Gs they're a logical match for Simmons. Hield and Fox are the only ones on big contracts though. Would be ballsy to trade Fox and they'd have to be really confident in Halliburton/Mitchell to do it, but it could make sense.
It's not like you're gonna win anything with the current set up anyway.

Sacramento has always been the logical trade partner.
1. In the West, so Philly won't face them in the playoffs in all reality.
2. Kings look to have good players, but likely still aren't winning, so Vivek will feel pressure if the team is say 4-9 in a few weeks.
3. Davion Mitchell looks to be exciting enough to sell a ton of tickets.
The only issue I see is that I don't think Simmons at this point is worth any two of Haliburton, Fox, Hield.

The Nets complaining that Harden is being punished too much that they're getting rid of foul baiting is too good. Keep it up, NBA, please.

If I'm philly and can just get Fox (and filler if needed for salary) I'm taking that immediately and calling it a day. No way they should expect two, but the way this looks they're probably asking way too much. I'm not a huge Hield guy, though not a hater either, so I'm not sure I do it if it's just him+ filler. They have such a similar guy in Curry already. But, push comes to shove I probably do it just to move on.

He's the guy I thought 18 year old Joe Ingles was going to be. Obviously I've watched them to check out Giddey but I've come away impressed with pretty much all their young dudes. They could spend a bunch of spare firsts today and come away with another scorer and a big and get winning.
