How will Tyler Herro fare this upcoming season?

I have to agree with Texas Chuck, here. 30 points on 28 shots isn't a good offensive game, and two games that average out to be above average efficiency is what they call a small sample size. Can we at least let the guy get to 20 games before we anoint him an all-star? Be encouraged, sure, but be cautiously optimistic. I don't care how he starts. I care how he finishes...

herro was the star last night and essentially cooled off.
Blah blah 30 shots but he also had 10 rebs for those who try to discredit objective results.
he scored 27 points the game before so there is precedent that he his scoring really well.

give him his flowers right now, he deserves it.
Right now he is 9th in the league in scoring average and plays the least minutes among them.

Lots of guards can score 30 points on 30 shots. That's not impressive. This is the point I was disputing--a poster stating that specific game made him great. It didn't.

He's talented. He's confident. He played really well 2 years ago in the playoffs. He's off to a solid start. Okay. Have I said enough good things to allow me to make the valid point that just saying he scored 30 pints doesn't mean he had a great game or is a great player?

Let me know. I don't want to offend, But I do want to deal in reality. Good players do have subpar games even when they stuff the statsheet. How many times has Russell Westbrook done 30/10/10 and people recognized it didn't mean he was actually helping his team win that night? Why is Herro exempt? He isn't.

Why do you keep saying 30 shots? He took 28 shots last night. Normally I wouldn't make an issue of it but you're talking about dealing in reality, and besides, it amounts to a difference of 2% for his season FG% which is a very big deal at this point of the season

But seriously, Herro scoring 33% of the team's points while shooting 43% was actually helping the Heat on a night when the rest of the team was shooting 37%. He's Miami's youngest rotational player and was their only source of offense last night, as sad as that is to say for me as a Heat fan. Down 10 at halftime, Miami doesn't even get to OT without Herro's 14 points and +10 in the 2nd half

This isn't about haters, and you know it. This is about Tyler saying he belongs in the conversation with Luka and Trae. My point is that 2 games can have Tyler supporters looking mighty foolish a week from now. That's all.

Which was my point, exactly, but after he started on fire for us, putting up a 27, 7, and 7 game for the Heat in his first game of the year, people treated him like the second coming. He followed it up with 10, 7, and 13, then 20, 6, and 8, and then turned right back into the Winslow we all knew he was. He made it a week and then he returned to form (or lack thereof). My point was that we should learn from that experience and not just anoint him the next superstar.

By design Herro will not average points in the upper 20’s this season IMO. It is not that he can’t do it, but there is too many alpha dogs on veteran Heat team. For example last night’s game Butler got most of the offensive plays called for him, as if it was make up time for the previous game. If Herro was on a rebuilding team he would most likely average in the upper 20’s, but being on the Heat he is gonna have to be extremely efficient with his opportunities to even average low 20’s. ( which I think he can).
Now the comparison with Winslow is not even worth mentioning. Winslow is a brick master, where Herro clearly has the skill but lacks the body strength at this point to take the pounding every game, but who knows, his confidence may push him through it.

Oh and to be clear. I haven’t heard on single Heat fan claiming Herro to be a superstar, but he does have the potential as a skill young player to be a star in the future.

Jimmy made it a point yesterday to make for the turd he laid the game before. So I agree it will be hard for Herro to average elite scoring numbers specially in Miami with 3 primary scorers starting. If he continues to improve in passing, and keeps working on getting rebounds at the rate he has been he will be an amazing 6th man for this team. I believe the bench is an amazing opportunity for him to continue to grow. As a starter he won't have the amount of leeway he does now. He can grow his game by leaps and bounds by being coming off the bench, as you mentioned above if he was on a none title team surrounded by other rookies and non alphas he would be tearing it up.

I guess, people either think he has the potential or don't. I get what you are saying.....but really cant fault fans for celebrating what they believe he is capable of. We got 4 out of 5 games of looking at an improved Herro in preseasons, ok yeah....preseason.....but now he seems to be showing the same stuff in the regular season to boot.


I don't think people naturally think they have to preface every statement with I know player XYZ is not Michael Jordan, but i think he is doing pretty good so far compared to other 6th men.
