Saw this tweet and now I am feeling a little better about Kemba. Hopefully he gets it going in the next couple of games.

I'm not gonna comment too much on Kemba until midseason for that reason. Give him some time to get cooking. The defense is the bigger issue with him though.

50% last night but I still get your point his defense especially late was not good last night.

but overall he is still at the the top of the league in terms of DFG% against in the early part of the season.

RJs defense is always garbage lvl when his shots don't fall so he can talk all about defense to media but we can see the real him on court.

This game is a wake up call to show that we haven’t achieved sh*t yet. We won last season by playing gritty defense, just cause we got better offensively doesn’t mean we can let up.

Hate to point it out again, but the one weak spot on the defense has been Kemba and honestly right now I don’t like his smiling, laidback attitude. It seems as though the effort isn’t there. He almost cost us the Celtics game and he was a major reason why we blew this game.

It’s nice that Kemba is finally “home,” but the Knicks are trying to shed the label that we are the team that washed up stars come to in order to collect checks and experience NYC life. If he doesn’t pick up the effort the fan base will turn on him in a second.

It’s a big problem and it’s not going away. We’re going to need to make a trade.

We'll make a trade when a star is available.

There's no sense spending assets to win 48 games instead of 43.

I never said star PG.

I'm just saying there's no reason to tinker on the edges with this team.

We'll keep our powder dry until a real difference maker is available

My original post dealt specifically with the issue of our lack of any defense from Kemba.

Our defense at PG is not “tinkering around the edges”. It’s a major issue for this team. I’m not as concerned with Rose and the second unit.

We can afford to make a move for an upgrade at PG. We’ll need to if we’re going to compete to improve on last season.

If we’re going to trade for a star, then be prepared to give up RJ.

What upgrade at PG can we afford just out of luxury? It's probably the most premier position in the league.

zion and randle are impossible to play together so you're almost exactly in the same place if you trade one for the other. zion will be better if he can stay healthy but who knows if he can.

Na you team them up in New Orleans and bring Ingram here

60% according to the advanced box score on NBA.com but yeah still really bad.

that top of the league DFG% does not really mean anything to me since it is extremely early in the season. it has guys like blake griffin, tyler herro, jeff green, carmelo and Whiteside nearly at the top of the league right now. it's very premature to call RJ an elite defender. so far it looks like he's a good, but inconsistent defender. lets see how it plays out.

at the end of the day i am more worried about his lack of offense. he's literally the same player as last year on that end which is very disappointing for a 3rd overall pick.

I 100% agree...this early DFG% against can get skewed by one bad game or one good game. So totally agree need more of a sample size but overall I think RJ's defense has been good this year. Like you said I am more concerned about his lack of offense. But like he said today...he gets off to slow starts. Last year he was a disaster from 3 to start the year and finished the year over 40%.

He puts a couple good games in a row offensively he changes that narrative a little. He is at least attempting more off the dribble looks. Whether that is in his wheelhouse or not remains to be scene.

i remember last year he was showing flashes of a middy in the beginning of the season and then like he stopped doing it for whatever reason. hopefully he keeps taking them and shows off what he worked on in the summer. i just want him to prove me wrong man. i want him to take that leap so the knicks can start progressing to becoming a contender. a lot of the knicks success hinges on him becoming a star. it's pretty frustrating to see someone like Tyler Herro in his draft class making that leap we all wanted RJ to make.. and of course the fking Miami Heat has him :banghead:

Herro is a much more dynamic offensive player but Herro has a lot of hurdles to defensively. It's why he comes off the bench there to hide him.

Herro is being asked to score and score some more. That is his role.

RJ is being asked to be a 2-way wing guarding the oppositions best perimeter player. Now the 2-way isn't there because his offense is lacking but its only 3 games.

appearentely he's taken the leap on defense also according to his DFG%... i gotta check out games to see if it's actually legit. if he keeps this up eventually he'll be starting. the heat are pretty stacked so it makes sense to use him off the bench now. but to be honest he's really that type of scoring guard we want. he would def make randle's life easier. but enough about herro.. i hope rj proves me wrong. i'll keep rooting for him

Next time we win and then lose I’m all for Melo starting another game thread because their regular season percentage is now stuck at .666%

Yeah, I just looked at a list of the NBA point guards in the league. Nothing's available unless we want to attempt to pry SGA from OKC and even that is probably a no-go from OKC's pov.

The only solution I can see is if Rose starts and Kemba comes off the bench with the second unit. Perhaps we can hide his putrid defense a little better against the opposing teams' PG off the bench.
