Figured we should have a dedicated thread rather than using the draft thread or scattered discussions. Post all things Scottie here.

I'm getting stronger Giannis vibes (agressive paint attacker with long strides) than Lebron vibes (athletic playmaking big) so far.
Maybe it's masqueraded because the team has trouble hitting shots so far.

I'm really hoping Barnes becomes the team's future C, once he adds more strength.

The Scottie Barnes tour continues as coaches around the league note how impressed they've been by the Toronto Raptors rookie.

"He’s going to be a very good player," Chicago Bulls coach Billy Donovan said prior to Monday's game. "Very aggressive, puts it on the floor, he’s got really good length, a two-way player. Defensively, [he] can play a lot of different players. [He's] got the versatility and length to guard a lot of different people. ... He's only to get better with minutes and through playing. And certainly, he's gotten off to a great start in this early part of the season."

Hopefully it won’t be long before we give Scottie the ball to initiate the offence. Fred is better as an off-guard anyway.

ROY race between Scottie, Mobley, and Giddey. We'll see how Cade looks when he plays.

Green is a pylon on defence and streaky on offence. Suggs just sucks right now.

17 ppg on 56% shooting through 4 games

NOBODY thought he could score like that this year, or even any year really. don't know if he can keep it up but he's finishing at 70% at the rim and shooting 62% from 3-10 ft with the majority of his shots coming in the paint, so he may well end up at 15+ ppg on the season, which would FAR exceed expectations.

Only 26% of Scottie's points are assisted. Just wait til Siakam gets back and starts opening up the floor for him.

My thoughts through the first 4 games:

Strengths:

-defensive versatility. Can defend all 5 spots on the floor.
-aggressive rebounder, especially on the offensive boards.
-playmaker and finisher in transition.
-very good feel for the game. Unselfish. Rarely takes a bad shot or makes an unforced mistake.
-long strides allow him to cover a lot of ground quickly and he gets to his spots efficiently.

Areas to improve:

-halfcourt playmaking. He will still need a lot of reps to get to a level beyond being just good for his size/position.
-3pt/outside shooting still very raw

The sooner we hand him the keys the better. Good things happen when he has the ball

In addition to his on-court skills he's going to be a great leader

Scottie Barnes having a nice so far.

At this point, Senior needs to give up the playmaking duties to Barnes during stretches. Still gonna take time for Barnes to be a playmaker in the NBA.

This ain't no NBA2K.

Honestly, hes impressed me in almost every area, except his non-transition facilitating. I see flashes but unless hes staionary or guys are filling the wings in trnasition, I havent seen much to extol.

Im very excited for his future because I think the passing will come and hes exceeded in so many of my other issues I thought post-draft. Sky is the limit for him.

Proof of tanking working! If Masai followed team win now the Raptors wouldn't have Scottie.

Why? Hes been awful at it, and FVV has been great. FVV had more than triple the ASTs last night than Scottie has had in 4 games.

I think how they are using him is perfect, and more to the point, the only issue is he needs to assert himself more on those triple threat swings, but thats the guy Scottie is (a team player).

A lot of luck involved as well as we moved up from 7 to 4.

Not to mention that Masai is a ninja.

he showed great passing ability in pre season but totally different player in the regular season so far

He's averaged 3.3 turnovers and 1.3 assits. That's not a point guard

I think the simple way to thinking through being super enthusiastic about Scottie is the ease of which he can get his.

His offensive game is limited to attacking the rim, putbacks, runners and the occasional mid range shot and pull up. As Scottie's scoring arsenal grows it gets pretty easy to project him as a 20 ppg scorer very soon on the low end. He is able to score with his raw skillset which is only going to improve exponentially. This is a scary, scary thought. I mean, he is almost there 4 games into the season. Scottie is getting reigns that he did not get at FSU or Montverde Academy and we are seeing something.

He projects as an elite defender who can guard multiple positions and superb rebounder. I won't go into talking about those points as I think it is fairly apparent that he's going to succeed there.

He's going to need to clean up those turnovers and forcing passes, though. His TO to Assist numbers is not great right now despite him looking really good in transition. And yes, the jumper but his form looks cleaner now that it did in college. I think it is just a matter of reps at this point.

Call me crazy but if its a redraft im having hard time not taking Barnes 1st overall. Its awesome that we get to witness the development of Scottie because although he might not be a star right now, the path to stardom is clearly there.

My only hope is that we develop him either as a PG or small ball center

I agree. I also think the guys around him will become more aware of his tendencies and skillset which might help his halfcourt facilitation. For example, when he has the ball in the post, he does an excellent job of scanning the court for open teammates, but there are only a couple of times so far when it's directly led to buckets.

Much like how guys seemed to start cutting more after Gasol arrived and they realized he would get them the ball, I think the same thing will happen with Scottie, and we'll start to see some chemistry on hard cuts with guys like Trent, Precious, Birch, Svi, etc.

Scottie is definitely the coolest (soon to be) superstar player we’ve had

Vince was a mamas boy/band nerd, Bosh was a computer geek and had some soft/beta tendencies and Kawhi is one of the strangest players of all time

**DeMar & Lowry were great but I wouldn’t consider them superstars

Return to Toronto Raptors
