Re: Deni Avdija
He's still too passive when he gets the ball. His defender doesn't have to do anything most of the time. Kuzma is the opposit he tries to do something almost every time he touches it in spite of the fact that his skills aren't great.
I like what a see from Deni defensively but at some point he needs to step up offensively.

Re: Deni Avdija
One of those players gets free reign to do whatever the f**** he wants at all times and plays 33+ minutes a game regardless. The result is 48% TS while chucking up 13 shots a game.
The other guy gets yanked if he make a small mistake.
I’ve been a fan of Unseld Jr so far, but one of the biggest disappointments I have is his love affair with Kyle Kuzma, who is a terrible basketball player. The numbers need to be flipped, Deni plays 30+ minutes while Kuzma plays 18 or less.

Unbelievable the criticism this guy gets. So far, Deni Avdija is having a tremendous season. He's defending great. He's blocking shots at a high rate, his assists are way way up, his rebounding is up, & his TS% is 57.1% -- i.e. way up (& higher than anything e.g. Rui has sniffed).
But he is the subject of incessant criticism here. Go figure.

Re: Deni Avdija
To add one more thing: Avdija leads the team in on/off differential so far.
(Kuzma is 2nd to last).
Avdija was our 9th overall pick last season. He needs a bigger role and a lot more minutes. He’s been fantastic so far both in the numbers and the eye test.

So far this season, Kyle Kuzma is playing better than he ever has. Driven mostly by grabbing 12 defensive rebounds & 2 offensive rebounds per 40 minutes.
Yes he needs to get his 3-pt. % up -- & make his FTs!! -- but overall he's playing well.
We are 3-1. Why are we criticizing our players non-stop?

C'mon, this is RealGM.com. We evaluate players - hopefully honestly. He's got a longgggg way to go before he becomes a quality starter - which is the minimum we hope for considering where he was picked. We shouldn't discourage other posters from giving honest evaluations that include criticisms, imo. I think there's been some progress, but I want/expect to see more.

I seem to remember Rui getting excessive criticism from a certain poster, certainly far more criticism than Deni has ever gotten.

Re: Deni Avdija
I think his aggression has been fine. What I noticed is he runs into problems when his handle fatigues too early.
There were a couple situations vs Boston where 1 or 2 more dribbles would’ve gotten him to the basket but he ended up passing because he either mishandled or picked up his dribble.

A-f*cking-MEN.
It’s because the meaningful numbers for defense are not the ones that are easy to trot out.
Guy’s been pretty tremendous, in limited minutes, and coming off a bad injury after only 56 games.
But until he hits some j’s with regularity, this chirping will continue.
They play the game on two ends of the court, guys.

Rui being out is turning out well for others on the roster, including Deni.payitforward wrote:Unbelievable the criticism this guy gets. So far, Deni Avdija is having a tremendous season. Now 4-1, with Kuzma leading rebounds and minutes played.payitforward wrote:NatP4 wrote:One of those players gets free reign to do whatever the f**** he wants at all times and plays 33+ minutes a game regardless. The result is 48% TS while chucking up 13 shots a game.

Since I love overstating I will say that Danny Avila that's close enough Google Translate is a very good draft pick and he will go down as one of the better wizards of all time. Re: Deni Avdija
He needs to keep the agresivness at defense and offense as he did against Boston. Sometimes i just want him to take the ball and go straight and strong to the basket. I did love the fact that at the last game against the Hawks, he took 8 shoots. Even tho he made only 1 of them and missed some open shoots, the fact that he is willing to make plays more than before it's a good sign for his confidence (even the dunk attempt which haven't been sucssesful).
At defense he did some mistakes and didn't has the best performance there, but generally he's ok.
Anyways he needs to take less 3's, but i do love it that he is less passive, and let's hope that slowly he will keep the momentom and will gain more confidence from that.

Jared Jeffries. Lack of confidence permeates every part of his game on the offensive end. Tries to make up for it defensively. I don't see the upside. This one feels like a relative miss but even JJ got a huge deal after his rookie contract so he could be useful and have value to a point as a wing defender.

Great comp. He's still young and can grow out of the soft part of his game - especially if he adds some muscle in the gym, but yeah - he's a lot like Jeffries was. Just practicing against Trez - who's the opposite - should help him.

Some major overreactions over some missed layups. His rookie year was spent being pulled after every mistake he made while being pigeon holed to being only a spot up shooter. Not to mention a pretty nasty injury cutting short his season and limiting his time to get reps in training camp. Have a little patience before you hex him with the evil of a Jared Jeffries comparison.

Deni is ahead of Jeffries at this point- despite being in his 2nd season- he's slightly younger in his sophomore younger season than Jeffries was in his rookie season.

I even remember people making "how dare you call him soft" kind of comments defending Jeffries in his years with the Wiz. Luckily he got a contract offer in free agency from the Knicks that the Wiz couldn't match.

Well... fair enough: he had a bad game last night, so he gets some negative attention.
