lol i fully admit i wanted mobley or suggs over barnes, but to be fair i never knew that in the past 4 years hes never taken more than 13 shots in a game(until the boston game), and i didnt know that he has a completely different looking jumpshot than in college already, i feel like scouts were generally wrong about him too and they saw him on a regular basis one could assume. so regular fans could probably be excused for not being privvy to alot of stuff our front office was, all i heard and saw was a guy with a great attitude and defense and a questionable jumpshot lol, i thought it was more of a hail mary based off his physical attributes than it really is now that we can see him day in and day out.

hope you and others have learned your lesson in not judging moves our front office makes because your knowledge will always be lacking in comparison

Regarding drafting Barnes, I didn't investigate his game at all. I didn't think the talking heads would get the top 4 wrong. They all said that there was a drop off after Suggs. So it mattered not what the name was, we had been conditioned to think that if Suggs name was not called, the Raptors were gambling on the pick. It could be a 2 years in 2 years thing. I thought gambling at the 4 is far more risky than gambling and taking Bruno.

Interesting (but not quite surprising) note from Zach Lowe regarding Gary Trent

One hole: Trent doesn't make enough productive passes. He has five assists in five games. For his career, Trent has dished 1.6 dimes per 36 minutes -- one of the 10 lowest figures ever for any player listed 6-5 or shorter with at least 3,000 career minutes. Most of the other guys on that are pure stand-still shooters.

Trent is more than that. He can dribble, and he moves without the ball -- often catching it with the floor in flux. He has passing windows, but he either doesn't see them or chooses not to use them

I knew he wasn't a good passer but he really needs to start working on that since this team needs as much creation and easy baskets as it can get

That 2016 off-season would’ve been the perfect storm. TV deal Salary cap increase gave a ton of teams space and stretch 4’s were at a premium. $100 mil contract is a bit of hyperbole admittadely but Garrity was a big that could shoot the 3 at a high clip. I’m sure he would’ve been covetted just like Ryan Anderson at the time.

Salary inflation plus the way the game has changed, a lot of guys back then would’ve been better off today. Raptors own Donyell Marshall would’ve probably been a borderline all-star if played in this era. That said, Donyell was a way better player than Garrity

wrt the Suggs/Barnes thing: Many of us got our exposure to Suggs during March Madness, where he performed as advertised. Unless you watched a lot of Florida State during the regular season, you didn't see a lot of Barnes and only ready the scouting reports. The story right after the draft (when a lot of people were still trying to wrap their heads around it) was that the Raptors have been following Barnes since he was about 16. Scouting games in HS, with the US national teams, in college. They already knew so much more than any of us or most talking heads do. So not surprised that they seem to have hit the nail right on the head again. Not to say that Suggs won't turn out to be a great or good player, too. I'm not writing him off after 5 games.

Pretty excited to see how Wagner plays. If rumors were true that Toronto was looking at him pre-lottery he probably wouldve been our pick at 8 if we fell. (We had highest odds to get 8th pick)
