Re: The truth about FVV
Yeah I think we need to be content with him now. Less shot attempts, more assists. He’s doing it. Once Banton and Barnes handle more he’ll be doing less dribbling.

Even more so, he can't make the simple pass on a 3on2 or 2on1 break

If you want a roster with 5 really great starters and a decent bench in a salary cap league, you need to have players who are not perfect at everything.
FVV is a GREAT pg. Not good, great.
The raps have had players that i thought weren't as good as they were given credit for. Vince was one of those for me so i get it. But if you make more than 5 posts per day hating on a player then the board is better of without you.
Not saying ppl shouldnt critiques the players they dont like....but 40 to 50 posts in a game thread denigrating someone. Man....chill out. Noone wants this board to be your venting outlet.
I've made some negative posts about precious the past few days. But i'd never harp on about for 40 to 50 posts and i'd never make fun of his name (ie "fred van suck") and all the the childish stuff.
Fortunately...i think we've turned the corner. Same thing happened last year.

Re: The truth about FVV
Fred is solid. Period
He had been asked to play a scoring guard role up until this point.
He has always been a point guard and is more than capable.
Give him time to adjust to a new and healthy team
By January when siakam is back, Fred and OG will look emev better and Raptors will be rolling

Fred is solid but a lot of the times tries to do too much like finish at the rim too much(not his specialty), not passing it to his teammates and dribbling the air out the ball. He's an elite shooter and defender that needs to put some more trust in his team. Pass the ball and trust some of your guys(same could go for a lot of our guys like OG who barely passes, trent jr, Precious, etc.) everyone thinks they are MJ it seems. NOPE

He is more a SG than PG, and he is the only one who holds the ball more often. Either he improves enough to be a PG, or he is willing to setup for others, particularly, I don't get why Barnes isn't getting more touches on offense.
I agree with this, we really don’t have true PG that’s set up others. I’d argue the only true PG we really have is Delano Banton
Scottie Barnes is the next Magic Johnson!!!

I actually want to see him off ball more. That was his role with Lowry anyways. I want to see Barnes involved more as a facilitator.

It’s happening already with OG/Barnes and playing alongside Banton. When Siakam comes back it will be even more off ball stuff.
But…he did carry the team in the 4th Q mostly on ball.

That’s something I didn’t see mentioned in the post game thread. I keep saying it Fred is majestic in the pick and roll he can get to wherever he wants.

These goofs should look up who’s led the league in assists/to ratio the past 15 years. Being safe doesn’t make you a good playmaker.

To be fair, FVV is getting jobbed in the PnR, in terms of guys hitting their shots.

Re: The truth about FVV
Where does he rank in terms of franchise point guards?
Damon, Calderon, Alvin, Doug Christie, Lowry, Ford.
Based on his contributions and longevity he's probably top 2. And we got him for literally nothing.
So lots to be improved as a playmaker more than anything (his size will always cap his scoring potential. But given how we got him I find it very hard to get upset about his shortcomings.

Re: The truth about FVV
He's easily top 2 behind Lowry. He's accomplished way more and his commitment and loyalty to the raptors trumps all the rest and was an integral piece to a championship.Anticon wrote:Where does he rank in terms of franchise point guards?
