Ceiling of Evan Mobley
What's your impressions of the guy? How far can he get? He seems to me like he has Embiid type potential, am I overreacting?

I worry a little about his build and whether he'll be an 80 game per year guy for the next decade. That said, he looks like taller, better Chris Bosh.

A mixture of Tim Duncan and Chris Bosh IMHO.

Re: Ceiling of Evan Mobley
Who is the last rookie who looked like an all-NBA defender from jump street? Who was the last big man? Because he leads the NBA in contested shots and it’s not close. He played 36 mins last night and had no turnovers and no personal fouls.
He’s mostly limited to a rim runner role at this point on offense, but he’s shown a nice handle and a nice jumper out to 3P range.
The easiest ceiling comp is KG/more aggressive AD. The question is whether or not he gravitates to a wing role as his skillset develops.
Look at the fake pass at 0:45 then the pull-up jumper. The ceiling is high on offense and he’s already established he’s an elite defender.

Re: Ceiling of Evan Mobley
worse Garnett? I knew very little of him and Barnes, so I underrated them as prospect, but my good they are legit. I was familiar with Sengun and I really believed Sengun will easily be best big from this draft, but the competition for that is fierce. Both Sengun and Mobley will be big stars in the league if you ask me.

He looks identical to a young Chris Bosh, except tougher and more of a banger.

He has a very ingenuous affect off the court but seems pretty savage on it. Throwing elbows, that sort of thing. But he also won’t change his facial expression a la Duncan.

The only rookie player that's better than Scottie Barnes right now

Re: Ceiling of Evan Mobley
Less exposed Gobert with better offense. I use the Garnett/AD comp as a gauge but both had the look at me superstar about them especially KG.
More pace to KG, but Evan moves effortlessly from point A to point B back to point A again. Best positional defensive player for a rook since who knows at that age. Perfect verticality, barely jumps and slides around and it’s rare to find he’s equally adapt at both hands seen him do it an instant it’s comes very easy for him he doesn’t have to think about it.
Leads the NBA in contested shots all over the court with three sub defenders in the starting unit. Allen is great on that end but it stands to reason how much more impact he would have per team, even the worst team in the NBA he brings distinct defensive impact.
Mobley has a certain eerie style to Duncan. Head down, bum up no flash but all of the cash type of deal. It’s all substance with him.
You can tell he’s been coached and drilled into perfect basketball fundamentals from an early age.
Some players waste on blocks, he takes the Russell’s method on blocks and tries to actually acquire the ball. Some blocks lead to even worse positions for a sportscenter type play. Looks fantastic on the athleticism front but sometimes it isn’t the right play.
Was enamored by him from the first moment I watched him in College games.
Basically up the shot attempt volume and get more comfortable with shooting and that’s already an All Star in my books.

Re: Ceiling of Evan Mobley
Don’t ever listen to people who tell you professional sports organizations know what they’re doing. It would take a pretty insane leap for Cade and Green to justify being selected over Mobley. Bigs like Mobley don’t come around often and change franchises. Scoring guards can be drafted every year.
Who knows what the future holds with regards to injuries, etc. but skill sets? He was clearly better as a prospect and now as a pro.
Same for Doncic.

I think he could be MVP one day. He will have to overcome his natural inclination to blend in and become more aggressive on offense though.

Re: Ceiling of Evan Mobley
This sounds kind of crazy, but he plays how I imagine Bill Russell played, as described by @DCasey91
The technical soundness on defense, anchoring the paint with the fluidity to come out to the perimeter and guard PGs. Positional awareness and the fact that he’s so disciplined with his hands and doesn’t commit touch fouls in the paint.
The physicality will come with time as he gains good weight. He isn’t shying away now though.

Re: Ceiling of Evan Mobley
A better AD.
I’ve said this before the draft, I think if you’re drawing up the ideal 5 in today’s NBA it’s Mobley. His defensive instincts are truly elite and he has the mobility to not get exposed by a team that goes 5 out or spams the PnR.
Then offensively he may not be a consistent shooter yet, but the form and touch is there, the jumper will be a consistent threat in a few years. He already has a good hook shot with good touch. He is also a really good passer. The ball doesn’t stick in his hands and he knows how to play and get his numbers in a perimeter oriented offense.
His ceiling is sky high.

Uberathletic Duncan with 3 pt range.
If you want to try to measure the elements of basketball that are supposedly unmeasurable, spend a game just watching Marc Gasol.

Re: Ceiling of Evan Mobley
Kevin Garnett with a 3 point shot
But not like in a KAT way where he's taking 7 or so a game and it's a major part of his offense, more in an Anthony Davis way where he takes 3 or so a game and makes 1 or so and it's more to keep the defense honest than anything.
