SPURS GAME DAY! GAME 6: SPURS AT BUCKS, 30-10-2021, 7PM (CT)

Ok time for some good vibes. We're doing a lot of good things, and now need to figure out how to stay focused and poised late in games to pull through. Stick to our fundamentals, assert our strengths, finish the plays for the full 48 minutes.

I like that Lonnie is taking it to the basket quickly. He has to learn to finish with his left hand, though. Also, he's already gotten caught twice on two of their baskets, one on each side of the baseline: a drive he was late on covering allowing too much space and getting his body twisted rather than squared to the driver, and then a late coverage on Khris J. In fairness, though, the latter is a huge defensive task.

Our margin for error is small that we simply have to keep all the fundamentals in mind: box out. We've given up two O reb putbacks to smaller players. We need to look around, recognize, body up.

1ST Q: SPURS 27

BUCKS 24

Terrific start. Stingy, clean defense, getting good positioning and preventing easy shots or forcing passes for secondary options. We have to be careful about giving up O rebs and make our FTs. These are ahrder to get now so we have to make the most of them.

White has showed up and stepped up, but predictably when one guard has it going the other doesn't. DJ is 1-4 so far. I felt like we settled for outside shots too much. Running some back door cuts and finishing inside more will help balance outside O contests.

Liking the movement and the assertive play on D. Just push a bit more on O with drives.

TONS of missed chances by us the last six or so possessions just before the Bryn 3. We NEED to make the most of the se and reward ourselves for the very solid D play.

DJ great anticipation for that steal just before.

When's the last time we ran a pass for an off-ball cutter on the weakside? We're playing with fire with all these outside shots.

2ND Q: SPURS 47

BUCKS 49

Well it's our pattern so far this season - we can't seem to get enough guys going on O, and despite that, we keep on settling for outside shots too much. We were 1-9 from 3 this Q. You take the shot that's open, and I don't even mind a 3 in transition now and again, but we settled for a lot of outisde, one-and-done shots too much.

Thad and Tre were immediate O changers for us.

I don't expect Lonnie and Devin to be shooting 6)% efficiency every game, but I wish they would alternate such a high efficiency with 1-10 at the half and 1-6 from 3. Just strange. As is DJ front rimming just about everything. White stepped up huge in the 1ST Q but cooled off since.

Keldon's so much a rhythm and timing player. When he's on he makes these weird crafty drives and finishes well off the glass; when he's off, it looks awkward. He got into the key a couple of times and instead of recognizing he's up against a wall of taller players and stopping and passing out, he tried another one of those strange floater attempts that missed.

Drew is once again getting driven by badly and not scoring. Thad has looked good on D and in passing from the top of the arc as well as finishing inside, so it's nice to see him getting minutes. Smart player. Diop is crazy long and made a nice drive inside. Productive.

Jakob is only 1-2. We have a size advantage but keep settling for outside shots. Underused weapon for us.

If we can focus on not settling for being a perimeter team and move to get the ball inside and move the ball more to creat good to great chances at the rim, we'll fare better. We simply have to reward ourselves for the overall great D with some hot-streak made shots in the second half for a positive result.

We're not incorporating Jakob in the O AT. ALL.

All we're doing is taking outside shots like we're afraid to drive inside. Drive and dish, drive and kick, drive and get the foul.

Absolutely inexcusable O reb given up by us just there. We did so well to contest and then ... watched as the ball dropped with like straight knees and delayed reaction like the ball would just come to us. Instead they got the ball and scored.

3RD Q: SPURS 69

BUCKS 67

Somehow despite our scoring struggles, we finished the Q on a 12-3 run to take a slim lead into the final Q. Our D drops statistically in the final Q, so we need a double-pronged poised effort on D to get clean stops and on O to make good to great shots.

Thad has been terrific.

DRIVE, DRIVE, DRIVE at them, Spurs!!!

Dear Spurs - PLEASE for the love of wins STOP taking 3s. STOP it. DO what is WORKING which is P&Rs and driving. Get fouls. Get to the FT line. Make the shots on drives.
