I just slapped myself 2 times for jeering the Raptors selection of Scottie Barnes with the 4th overall pick in the NBA draft.

you have to like what Banton is doing with his energy and size on defense, but at some point NN will need to use a Point Guard(Flynn or Dragic) that can actually run the half-court game(whenever FVV is off)...currently that PG is not Banton.

Nurse usually does sort it out a few weeks into the season. He figured it out earlier than I thought he would. He's an awesome coach.

Cant believe Barnes is 20 years old. It's crazy.

And FVV... I'm not a fan but Ill admit, he is putting in the work to make the team better. Also seems like he realized; the less he has the ball in his hands, the more productive he is. He also had some nice passes tonight.

Lots to be excited about

I think it’s pretty much a no brainer that Achiuwa is coming off the bench when Siakam gets back. I also think Birch needs to start, but unless you’re playing a Philly or a Denver or a Minnesota I don’t see that happening either.

It’s probably gonna be FVV - GTJ - OG - Barnes - Siakam and they’ll play switch heavy and run to try to keep those big guys moving.

Birch will essentially be the 6th man, Boucher will get his minutes, and Banton is probably a rotation fixture for now. Svi is earning his minutes, so he’s in there. Yuta is going to get some run, too, but I think they’ll find minutes for Achiuwa. The nice thing about the roster is that we have a lot of guys that can guard 1-4, so it’s not crazy to run OG at the 2 in some lineups, or even Achiuwa / Yuta at the 3. And that’s not even mentioning Flynn, who it feels like is on the outside looking in now but I just feel like there’s minutes for him somewhere in there too.

We’re just so dang deep with quality guys. No superstars (I’ll keep my expectations in check for Scottie right now, but he looks like he very well could be) but just a bunch of guys that are clear NBA players and a developmental system that is churning out quality guys. Even Dekker and guys like Champagnie and Johnson are probably rotation players on this team who can’t get minutes because the roster is stacked.

What a fun year this is going to be.

Yup. Banton is an NBA rotation player right now, but he can’t shoot well enough to run the PnR efficiently like he needs to. The skills are there and in time he has some pretty good upside, but he is not an NBA PG at the moment.

Dragic looks like he might be done (side note: it might actually be keeping his trade value afloat that we’re not playing him) but I think there will be minutes for Flynn at some point.
