Anytime you can use a top 10 pick on a guard who is bad at shooting and dribbling you gotta do it.

Spencer Dinwiddie was also a great find for a 38th pick. But they traded him for Cameron Bairstow, Chicago 2nd rounder.

KOC deserves part of his rookie contract

Killian Hayes really needs to be in the G-League right now. The initial demotion might affect his confidence, but it can't be any worse then going out in a Pistons uniform every night and being the worst player on the floor. He does have tools that could lead to a successful career, but he needs to hone them somewhere with competition he can handle. Send him down and in the meantime, you allow a promising Saben Lee to develop with minutes on the main squad.
Tom Gores' Securus faced a class action lawsuit in 2024. The company engaged in a "quid pro quo kickback scheme" with county jails in Michigan which banned in-person visits in order to maximize revenue from voice and video calls.

Melo and amare should thrive in this offense. If Jeremy Tyler and cole Aldridge looked that good in summer league then us knick fans have a lot to be excited about. Make room for all the bandwagoners when we take off

He should have been a second round pick. 7th overall is just...wow.
He'll be lucky to last in the league as long as Dante Exum did.

Tried telling Pistons fans this but they don’t wanna hear it for some reason. When you draft PG the very next year after taking Hayes…it’s a wrap. He can’t shoot, can’t defend and his handle and BBIQ are suspect

He played and didnt even tear it up in the SECOND German League. The First League isnt even a good league, it boggled my mind, when i saw him that high in the mocks in the build up to last years draft.
On the Alperen Sengün hypetrain since 2020

i know we're a rebuilding team but i would be willing to bet actual money that there isn't a single player in the league more undeserving of the minutes they get. i understand young players on growing teams get a little more leeway but hayes has at no point shown potential of being an average NBA player, let alone a good one. he puts absolutely zero pressure on opposing defenses because he has no go-to move to score and is unable to get to the rim (and can't finish the odd time he gets there). after being borderline the most inefficient rotation player in the league last season he's so far been the second least efficient player in the league this season.
what's worse is that he has confidence issues, so the team (both coach and vets) consistently have to keep his head up. this makes it difficult because sending him to the g league would be best so he can (hopefully) start to see some success but the demotion might break him.
i don't know what the outcome will be but i'm sure it won't be positive. hayes should 100% not be seeing NBA minutes right now and i wonder how long the other players are going to put up with it. he's getting more minutes than isaiah stewart ffs and we're already super thin at center.
Yeah, he’s the worst player in the league getting regular minutes right now, and we’ve got him starting.
Hurts to say but it’s a fact.

It's funny you bring up Spencer Dinwiddie as he is a perfect example of why you don't give up on players to early.kodo wrote:Spencer Dinwiddie was also a great find for a 38th pick. But they traded him for Cameron Bairstow, Chicago 2nd rounder.
To say Spencer was a horrific shooter early on is being nice. He could pass and defend, and had great size at the position (sound familiar?)but the Pistons gave up on him after 40 some odd games.
ANY Piston fan doing the exact same thing, should give a lot of thought before deciding anything. Hayes has only played in 31 damn NBA games up to this point.
Could he be a bust? Absolutely, but if you give up on a player after only 31 games, whoever made the decision should be fired, and never hired again if he becomes a fine NBA player.
Some players take longer, and its not as if the Pistons are trying to teach Hayes while competing for an NBA title. Last time I checked they were the worst record team in the league.

I'm willing to give him another year. PG is hard to learn and he's younger than many of the draft picks this season.

lets not even mention europe. he was hot trash in france and literally stat padded in euro cup which is a joke. this is why i am against drafting players who arent euro league players.
Players such as Nowitzki ,Jokic ,rightHayes being a bad player has nothing to do with him playing for eurocup team. The young prospects rarely get action in euroleague, like the serious role on the teams, Doncic was that rare example.
They don't necessarily have to play in the Euroleague, but at least produce at some kind of high pro level. What makes scouts and NBA teams believe that a kid from Europe who gets like 5 minutes per game will suddenly be good enough to play in the NBA? When you look at the european busts of the past decade, almost all of them are hyped up youth "phenoms" who never really played at a pro level though. NBA scouts see a 18 year old kid from France who has like 3 ppg in the first division and thinks "Meh he dominated the u18 world cup against 17 year old kids. That's enough. Let's draft him in the top 5". How has that ever worked out?
On the other hand, almost all of the best european NBA players right now, produced at a high level before coming to the NBA. Except GIannis, but he is the one massive outlier.
Don't draft euro kids who aren't good enough to play in Europe. Cause if they are not good enough to play in the Euroleague or Eurocup, they are not good enough to play in the NBA. Scouts put too much weight into some subjective sense of potential based on their performances against 16 year old kids in the youth tournaments

I completely agree with you, I think euro pro level is a good indicator how good or bad the guy will be in the league, its as good a sneak peak as you gonna get, and if player cant get playing time in europe, what good is he gonna do in the NBA. But instead of learning from their mistakes, GMs keep doing that, and even take steps further. We now have trends of drafting guys who sucked in G league or college, granted Redish might pan out, but what is Kuminga suppose to do in the NBA exactly, when he sucked in G league? I know that these guys are young, but everyone was young at some point, if you cant cut it against grown men of lesser caliber, what are the chances you will figure it out against better, more athletic grown men? Makes no sense to me.
That said, i checked Hays stats, and he wasnt bad, 12 and 5 in German league as a young PG, he did better than I rememeber, only his 3 shooting was terrible.

I am not defending Killian Hayes, he is terrible and he is hurting the development of other players, I want the ball in Cade's hand not in Killian's hands but some people around here need to watch this video.
