Marcus Smart: "Jayson and Jaylen, they don't want to pass the ball"

There are very few players around the league that have earned the right to throw their teammates under the bus publicly and even then it would probably considered ill advised.
Smart of all people has been absolutely terrible so far this season, so for him to air his grievances about other players publicly is just wrong.
The idea that someone playing poorly can’t speak on an issue seems to miss the point. It’s the reason Derek Fisher had a huge voice. Talent and leadership aren’t the same.
This just seems like people babying Tatum again. Smart is a reputable player with some say, this isn’t Smush Parker.

I don't remember the time that Fisher calls out Kobe,Shaq,Gasol or any others teammates in the media.....
He was able to handle it behind closed doors. Seems like Tatum isn’t taking to well to that approach. He also much younger and maybe shedding light on the situation is the only alternative. He hasn’t listened for years.
But a guy like Draymond, another vocal leader, might also take it in front of media if asked about it. What Smart said isn’t mean, it’s just facts.

So, your take is that Smart was being a leader by airing out criticism about the teams two best players in public?
If that's your idea of leadership then sure, you're absolutely right.
Of course none of this has anything to do with the Celtics meltdown in the 4th.
Go ahead and watch that quarter and tell me the Celtics lost because Tatum and Brown didn't share the ball.
Smart's criticism is absurd, and the fact that he chose do air it in a public forum is even dumber.

Re: Marcus Smart: "Jayson and Jaylen, they don't want to pass the ball"
Tatum was on his way to becoming one of my favorite players judging by his rookie season. He made getting off the ball and repositioning an art, same with his off ball defense. Now he’s someone I can’t even stand to watch. BSPN called him a “superstar” when he started making a few contested 28 footers and he’s seemingly had a lobotomy done to his team and floor IQ.
Never really cared for Jaylen. Much less so seeing how he’s a terribly hypocritical social media virtue signaler who wears Doc Martens with shorts.

There's no way to spin this, really surprised people are trying to. Smart isn't the only one that's called them out, this is now the 2nd straight year that these guys are being called selfish to the detriment of the team.
It's a problem, and it's pretty damning.
At some point, if there is a persistent problem - one that everyone can see and one that you have to think has been the subject of TONS of "in-house discussions" - and the player or players refuse to change (to the detriment of the team), that "you have to keep it in house", "bro-code" type ish goes out the window, IMO.

I like Brown. Tatum is a bit overrated to me. Neither are #1's on a championship team.

Re: Marcus Smart: "Jayson and Jaylen, they don't want to pass the ball"
I get that Marcus Smart is a good defender and can be clutch at times, but why does this dude get to talk smack?
The guy who is on 29% FG/28% 3PT? Who is 37.5% FG, 31.2% 3PT career over 8 seasons?
Tatum and Brown may not be 1a players, but both are them are damn good 2nd options.
No other role players on any NBA team gets to call out their star players like Smart.

Why do people pay more attention to the messanger instead of the actual message?

Theres really no other reliable offensive option. Schroder might be that guy but his game doesnt really mesh with the two stars imo. Smart has always been overrated imo, especially offensively. Just a straight up chucker most of the times. If I'm a star wing and i have to decide whether to shoot it or pass to smart, I'm definitely shooting it.

Because there are times when the messenger absolutely matters. Smart is calling out two guys for being ball hogs when he’s just as big a ball hog while being a fraction as good as those guys. He’s been a MUCH bigger problem for the Cs than J and J this season.

Yea... but I think the point is that there are TWO 'star' wings.
this isn't like Allen Iverson in Philly putting up 25+ shots a game because the NEXT BEST offensive player on the team is like Derrick Coleman, or Theo Ratliff, or Kenny Thomas.
This is more about Tatum than Brown, but c'mon. Tatum is shooting 25 times a game and shooting *UNDER* 40%. That's not good. It's almost like he's jealous of Brown and trying to match or outdo his point total and will chuck up as many shots as it takes.

Yeah it’s pretty clear the problem wasn’t the coaching staff.

Because for all Smart's issues he's the heart and soul of that team, and is the only one who consistently competes and/or that has shown any semblance of leadership ability.

Yea, its like they are taking turns out there rather than playing a team game. I definitely think that criticism is valid.

Nope. Truth is truth. In my world a KKK member can call someone else a racist, an awful basketball player can tell another guy they suck, and liar can call out soneone for dishonesty.
All these things make them hippocrates, but the truth is still the truth, even coming from an unsavory source.
The problem us when people skip over the message to ONLY deal with the messenger.

Re: Marcus Smart: "Jayson and Jaylen, they don't want to pass the ball"
Sometimes teams just get tired of a coach (no matter how good) and a change is needed. Seems with Boston the players are tired of playing with each other. Wonder what celtic fans think but it seems like either tatum or brown will eventually need to be traded.

these guys are not children. they're grown men getting paid millions to do better
sometimes it's better to let everyone know your goals so that it forces you to make good on those goals
No. This definitely should have been handled in house.

Truth is truth, but what Marcus Smart said wasn’t truth. .9 repeating = 1 is a truth.
Hypocrites lose the benefit of the doubt in getting to disseminate truth because they are… Hypocrites. I’m not going to listen to a ball hog call complain about other players being ball hogs, because their opinion is likely to be biased. That’s the problem with giving an opinion on a matter where someone is being a hypocrite, inherent bias.
Smart should try moving the ball himself first, and see if that improves the team, before he worries about Brown and Tatum not moving the ball.
