We aren’t
A glimmer of hope is this
https://www.marketwatch.com/story/the-number-of-americans-identifying-as-republican-is-the-lowest-its-been-in-a-decade-gallup-poll-11617812129And after January 6th there were reports about an exodus from the GOP with many voters changing to indy or dem registrations.
So even though polls consistently tell us 2/3rds of Republicans still believe the election was stolen that should also be understood in the context that GOP registration has been in decline for some time and it is getting worse. IOW, more sane Republicans abandoned the GOP than is generally recognized which is why the remaining percentages of Republicans who believe the big lie is so high.
Trump’s election was probably the last hurrah of white nationalism (though corporatism remains intact) and we’ve all known the demographics favor change in the long run as long as non-whites don’t fall for the malarkey of the GOP.
So, yeah, it is bad and it does look like as many as 50M Americans are radicalized into a permanent state of delusionary assholism and they see violence as the proper response. But they are outnumbered so while American culture is diseased by these people it can overcome them.
