The conditioning thing seems sus as hell to me. He played in the olympics. How out of shape could he be? With the amount of 3/4's on the roster, he could easily get 10 minutes a night and ramp up from there.

Right...if harden and Luka can play themselves into shape Rui can - now we supposed to be dumb

We know there are issues...

Rui might find minutes hard to come by when he comes back.

They need to integrate him into the team ASAP, even if he's not playing. Get him used to being around the team, and the team used to him being around. IMO just being around guys like Trez & Dinwiddie will be good for him, plus his college teammates Kispert & Ayayi. His teammates from last season Deni and Bryant who have worked back from major injury. The coaching staff, the in-game camaraderie, he needs to be included... This is becoming awkward.

With the way Bertans and to an extent Deni has played I think Rui will find a way to carve out some minutes if he comes back. Kuz will start because of rebounding/defense but his minutes will also go down slightly

How a news site can quote mayo and do it seriously is beyond me. We don't know what's going on. Maybe he is dealing with something serious, that he doesn't want out there. Maybe something happens to a family member. I have my suspicions but let's just see.

Only question now is how he is as a person -- not as a basketball player.

How does he feel about himself, where his life is at, what his relationships are to the people close to him (family & old friends)? If he needs help, e.g. therapy, is he getting it? Is he open to it?

Not to be insensitive - just wondering if there's something more to it - considering how hard he seems to have taken it and how much he's got going for him. We still haven't been given anything resembling a time-table - which I think indicates that this is nowhere close to being resolved. I guess there are HIPAA rules that restrict what the Wiz are permitted to say.

Isn't it a little hard to believe that this has started NOW -- when Rui has become a national hero?

From some quarters, I suppose. There are racists everywhere. But, isn't there an enormous amount on the other side of the scale? People who maybe never heard of Rui a couple of years ago who are now huge fans? Kids especially?

Still might be a factor in his state of mind; no one can speak to that without knowing him. All we can do is keep on wishing him well the way Frichuela just did.

It's not about basketball. Don't know what's at risk for this kid. Don't let them grind you down, son -- start feeling better. You have a long & wonderful life ahead of you!

This just a couple days after no one has heard from Rui, and his name is "taboo."

Mayo is becoming a joke. Hopefully Rui is doing better and back soon.

The way the team and media has handled the whole Rui thing has been a little weird. It’s just so hush hush. If you aren’t a Wizards super fan it was easy to forget Rui as a player even existed and that’s not typically how an unexplained absence from actual ballgames usually goes.

With that said we do live in a new era. Metal health is now viewed as more important as ever, maybe the local media as a whole just wanted to give an assist to an ailing player even if that’s not really their job.

The lack of information is deafening.
Whatever is ailing him, I hope he gets over it soon.
I worry that this will be a wasted year for him, and he doesn’t have a year to waste in his basketball career. Given the lack of credible information, or sightings, it is hard to gauge what he will be like when he does come back.

Hoping for the best here and that Rui comes back as his old self (if not better than before!)
