I don't like Fitz either, but the exreme homerism of some other team's announcers is really tiring too. The Rockets announcers were the worst a few years ago, don't know who is the worst now.

I used to find the Clippers announcers the worst that way, but I haven't heard them lately.

I have league pass now since I moved out of the Bay area 2 years ago. Never been a fan of Bob Fitzgerald but I've really started to enjoy Kelenna. And also the fact that they talk about the Bay area during the broadcast. When I listen to other teams broadcast it really grinds on me because they don't talk about the Warriors. Or they won't show the Warriors replay when they make a great play. Nothing wrong with a little homerism when it's for your own team.

Warrior history? Just last year? Or overall history (I think data goes back to 2017)

And when you say given room to shoot, do you mean open jumpers (3ft+ of space) or jumpers in general?

I’m curious about the open jumpers mostly but would be interested in overall as well

Predictably a wide gap in efficiency in isolation jumpers (-0.2 PPP compared to driving in isolation), but when it's off the pass the drive/shot splits are almost equal (slight advantage to shot; +0.05 PPP). Only looked at last year though because they year prior was MIN/GS without Steph, so didnt feel like it would capture accurately

So in short, if Wiggins puts the ball on the ground or holds it for more than a second after catching it, he's better off driving. But for the first second after he catches the ball, you want him to get into shooters' motion because he's better at that, especially on the weakside of the court

All data used was with Wiggins "open to wide open" which is 3ft+ of space between him and closest defender

So no major difference so we can at least stop kicking the dog when he misses an open jumper that he took in rhythm. I do think that there’s a roster difference to consider that could further favor him putting the ball on the deck and attacking the open space which is that Oubre and Wanamaker have been severely upgraded. Last year there weren’t a lot of “better shots” for which to pass on the good shot. This year the ball can keep moving and find A better shooter so his drive and dish productivity should be higher tilting the scales more away from him taking long Js at all.

Eh.. its tough. PPP captures individual stats, but not a lot of the variables. For example, there's tracking to see how many teammates are in rebounding-positive positions when the shot goes up (IE - closer to the rim than the shooter), there's FPR (final play result) meaning there's a bit of fluctuation.. in FPR, a Wiggins drive is dead-ass equal to a Wiggins C&S jumper when open (remember - PPP captures shots and assists, but not hockey assists, OREB, etc)

But overall yea, if Wiggins takes an open jumper in the flow of the offense, there should be no problem with that. He does however take about 2 shots per game over 20 ft, but not 3pters, with tight defense, off the dribble. And 1 of those per game happens with less than 2 people in positive rebounding position. That possession is only marginally better than a turnover

Will be interesting to see his numbers this year compared to last year. The data has serious lag so there's only 4 games showing atm, so not much to be made of it currently. But in a month? Would be interesting

Kelenna is getting better, and is still no Barnett.

The good: he has started leveraging his experience as a player more. When he's telling/teaching me things I'd never know because I'm not likely to play in the NBA, that's what I want to hear.

The bad: he's still auditioning for ESPN by yelling and screaming any time something interesting happens, "Oh, that's how you feel?!?!? HE TRIED TO PUT HIM IN THE BASKET! SAVAGE!!!"

Biggest homers I've heard are David Locke (Utah) and Matt Pinto (OKC), both those guys are radio guys though.

Fitz is definitely the most condescending POS in the business though. I'll take annoying homers over him any day. He's my least favorite announcer of all time, any sport, national or local.

To be fair, we have all been spoiled by Jim Barnett. If you're going to put anybody up against a God they will never live up to it.

What's funny is, the part you hate about him is the part I like about him. He actually reminds me of a fireman friend of mine in San Francisco. I find it very entertaining and even makes it easier to tune out Bob Fitzgerald. After listening to a lot of the other ex-players/color commentators we certainly could have done a lot worse.

Anybody else kinda concerned about Porter's defense? He can't stay in front of ANYBODY on the perimeter

Lamelo puts up some really dumb shots. The downside of going for sports center highlights every play is that the ones nobody sees look terrible.

Kalenna is about as mediocre as it comes, and he is starting to turn into a massive homer which makes it insufferable when Fitz is his partner. Fitz, you love him for 33% of the time, and he annoys you to hell the other 66% when he speaks like a homer from a youtube/tiwtter comment.

It drives me crazy when Wiggins makes an unnecessary move with the ball before shooting. Totally disrupts any flow. Maybe a better shooter can get away with that, but not Wiggins - you can usually predict the miss just by what he's doing before he shoots the ball.

If you're a broadcaster, and you call everybody on your team by their first name or nickname every time, and never by their last names, you're too much of a homer. That's one of my metrics.
